How does MMR while in series work?

After playing games in and out of series, i noticed that while my MMR kept rising by a little bit, the average MMR of my league (according to op.gg) kept rising as well. The average MMR of my league rose about 100 points in a few hours. Is this normal? And, if I win my S4 -->S3 series at 1325 MMR current, will I be promoted to S2? op.gg said that I'd skip 2 divisions but now that the average MMR of my league went up, it says that it is normal. (Btw, I was in the same league/division the whole time)

Thanks! item 3190

mmr dictates who you play with, LP accumulation says if you are ready to go up. so if i have an mmr rating of say 1600 and im really climbing, and im currently in say s1 promos, ill be grouped with all gold 3 players for my promotional matches. no1 will be s1 with me. but i still have to win against g3 players because thats where my MMR is situated.

which is why the current system is broken. you have to have at least a 50%+ win rate just to get to promos, and then win 3/4 games to go up, or sometimes 4/6. (because you have to win a game to enter promos)

old system was better where it was just 1 number that said who you played with and where you belonged. now we have 2 to worry about.
