4v5 and a possible way to fix it.

Everyone has experience a 4v5 in a rank game, we have all been in both side, great when you are in the opposite team since it's almost a guarantee win but a terrible experience when you are in the team with the missing player. I believe when someone is in the team with the DC or AFK player it causes 4 players to be angry and they take that anger into their next games. It's frustrating 30-40 min game and even more since it progresses to the other games, this causes "toxicity" which is something Riot has been trying to fix since day one. There is many reason to cause toxicity but this one in particular you have no control over. Anyone can have a computer crash, internet goes out, power goes out, etc. Even though it's something out of your control it still makes people angry and frustrated specially when you finish the game and you lose ~25 LP for something you had no control over, that's a lot of points and it makes anyone either not want to play or take their anger in their next game.

Okay, what if there was a system implemented in the game that aloud players to right click a player in the Scoreboard and gives you the option to select Player AFK/DC. After the majority of the team have selected the option and/or even give the opposite team the change to help the team with the AFK/DC player to select it. Well a window can pop up on that particular player, just like the AFK warning that pops when you sit in the base no doing anything, asking if the player is back in the game, it can even give them a good amount of time just in case the player is trying to log back on the game, well if they fail to answer the warning the game ends with no penalty towards the team with the AFK/DC player/players giving them a loss prevention and awarding a small amount of LP to the other team.

This option will help the players not get as angry and move on with their next game faster than it would normally take and not make players frustrated or angry which will eliminate another way of creating toxicity in the game and awarding the team that didn't have an AFK or DC a small amount that way they feel like they didn't waste their time. It will prevent people lossing their placement matches or promotion matches for something they can't control and it has nothing to do with skill level of the player.

For example, the other day I was in a 4v5 rank game, our jungler never logged into the game, could have been hundreds of reason but still we kept a calm and collective and continue to play because we all know upsets do happen and they happen more often than everyone thinks. What got us upset even though we knew from the beginning we were going to lose since the enemy jungler took full advantage of the free jungle, even though we warded try to take as many camps as possible to prevent the enemy jungler to snowball it was very hard to keep lanes and the jungle safe. We still kept going not trying to be angry at each other. At the end of the game we all lost 25 LP which it was a huge hit specially when we knew to regain those points we needed to win two or even three games and we had no control over, the skill of the players was thrown out the window. All four of us got upset and one got extremely angry, that player was my duo partner. He got so angry that even though I try my best to calm him down he took it to the next game and he didn't play to his maximum potential and we lost cause he couldn't let go of the previews loss. It demoted him to the previews teir and he logged off and uninstall the game (yes I know kinda harsh and over board) but it made me think, there has to be a way to fix this and if it could be fix the amount of toxicity would drop maybe not by much but 20% less toxicity still better that 0%.

What do you guys think? Lets talk about it and maybe, hopefully, wishing, Riot can read this lengthy post and put their two cents into the matter. Thanks in advance for everyone's time and see you summoners in the fields of justice.

P.S. Would like to hear a programmers perspective on how hard would be to implement this mechanic other than Riots programmers. AND I know there might be a way to exploit this mechanic but it's a start of a brainstorm to a problem all around the world in all tiers of rank.

(Hope I'm posting this in the right board)

There's no 4v5's in LC$ though so that's not an important issue.

So if a team is losing, they can just have one player goes afk and get a loss prevention.

The main worry you have with any of this is that it encourages players to rage out at a feeder in the hopes of making them quit the game.

In general, ragequits shouldn't give you protection from losing LP. Most ragequits occur in a game state where, if there were some way to force that player to keep playing, you'd still be heavy underdogs.

For the case where players fail to connect to a game, or disconnect before first blood and before the minions spawn, that game shouldn't even be played out. Abandon the game, assess it as a dodge for the DC player, and everyone else goes home with no gains or losses.

The grey area between these is what to do about cases where a player AFKs in an even or ahead game state. This fortunately turns out to be quite rare, so probably it's okay to call that a loss forgiven in the event that player stays dc'd and that team goes on to lose.

You guys bring valid points and yes it can be exploited but my main concern is how SmokingPuffin said a disconnect before first blood even happens. You have a disadvantage from the start and that's my biggest concern.

Yes, someone can go AFK and the team has a loss prevention is very exploitable but of course the person going AFK or rage quit gets heavily punishable and I do agree the team can harass a team member to the point of rage quit which can also be exploitable but that's why I created to threat so we as a community can brainstorm and throw ideas.

I'm sure Riot has professionals that have look at this in many different ways and have tried many ideas, but the community is greater than Riot's employees (in numbers). We all love the game Rioters and Summoners alike, we all want a healthy environment so we can all enjoy every single game win or lose.

No one is wrong or right here since it's just ideas thrown into the pot and everyone's opinion is viable and should be heard and respected. Like I mention before everyone has been part of a 4v5 either in the winning or losing team and it's something, generally speaking, we can't control. A game shouldn't be dictated on a DC.

In regards of rage quitters that's on us the Summoners to communicate (in a positive way) with each other. After all this is a team base game and we should always go into a game with that mentality but we have to admit sometimes the problem is out of our hands and people shouldn't get penalized so severely in cases like a connection problem from the start.

There is always a solution, we just have to find it. Think of it as a puzzle, sometimes they are very hard but there is always a way to finish it. That's when Rioters and Summoners work together to solve it.
