Suggested change to make Leona Top viable

I tried running Leona top in a few games now and what strikes me as a bid problem is that she lacks any sort of sustain. Twice casting all 3 of her spells will put her oom. Not a big problem when running support but with her low dmg really puts her out of sorts top. And even with her W, she will still get warn down faster then she can do dmg. VS a ranged champ, she's already lost the lane.

My suggestion to make Leona more then just a bot support is to add some solo functionality to her passive. Right now it's useless when she is solo. I suggest that if the sunlight is not triggered Leona reabsorbs it for some health and mana. That way she has some sustain solo, but keeps the bonus dmg when grouped. This change wouldn't have much of an impact on her current roll as support, but would make running her top side, and maybe even jungle, possible.

Thank you for considering my suggestion.

There's a few guides on how to jungle and top leona, I'd suggest looking at them. If riot really wanted to make her an independent champ, they'd do something about that passive.

But yes, she has mana issues if you spam her spells. I probably wouldn't bother with a full combo in top lane until needed and focus on farming at least until you can get a spell blade.

I'd say the biggest thing keeping her in support is the fact that she can't proc her own passive. That sunshine mark thing. I'm not sure if that's necessarily even a bad thing. Toplane leona sounds cool, but it also sounds like it could be annoyingly strong if she was buffed. However, it'd be pretty cool if Leona could be played viably in the jungle. She has the materials to gank, while building tanky, and she has a bit of AoE damage with that eclipse explosion ability. Maybe if they made it so she could self-proc her passive on monsters...?
