Related to Ekko and a trending reddit post that I don't agree with and I explain why.
Thank you to anyone who reads this and has something interesting to write. Best of luck all on the fields of justice.
Hello Everyone! I'd like to jump in on this discussion and see what everyone thinks after reading what I have to say. I will be basing my responses off of each of the original posters paragraphs. This will be quite long though if you read it and can contribute something then I appreciate it. In response to the first paragraph: I believe that you and many other players severely underestimate the difficulty it takes to actually pull off a successful parallel convergence. It seems everyone concentrates on what the parallel convergence is capable of instead of what it takes to get there. The person playing Ekko has to plan 3 seconds in advance and guess where his opponent will be or how they will move. This to me means that if successful the Ekko should be getting a serious payoff! Also as an added note just because you get the W on your target does not guarantee you the stun/shield. Many times the target will be too far away for you to simply E forward followed by the blink therefore resulting in the stun. In many cases a combination of flash and E is required. As a clarification the stun is 2.25 seconds long and the shield is 2 seconds, the shield does not last as long as the stun.
I'd like to look at Parallel convergence and its ability to stun/shield in two different scenarios. The first laning phase, in a 1v1 scenario the shield itself is relatively negligible assuming you get the stun off on your target. This is due to the fact that the stun lasts longer than the shield. You could say however that if you were to be ignited or take a significant amount of minion damage the shield would negate it. This is true though to be frank the ap ratio(some complain about its value) on the W would play no part in your survivability as the base shield value is high enough to circumvent most lethal damage done to Ekko by ignite or minion damage. As a reminder to players who are dealing with an Ekko that is shielded, remember the shield only lasts two seconds simply wait two seconds then ignite him assuming this is pre level 6 and it will not cost you your life. Ekko in a 1v2: This is where the shield can really come in handy. If Ekko only stuns his laning opponent and not the enemy jungler then he can negate some damage the jungler would have done to him by having the shield and may possibly live though his W will not help him out any more than that. Something that I notice is that players will get hit by his w in a full engage become stunned then complain about it being OP. But did they take into account how they put themselves in that situation to begin with. Many times people will fight Ekko and I shit you not they will sit in the same place even after watching his W animation activate. If you are one of those players who fought Ekko in the same spot for 3 seconds or more, got stunned and then died. Followed by the usual, "this champion is OP rant", then I am sorry but you are just a silly person and likely a poor league player. That does not make him overpowered nor does it really mean he outplayed you, what that shows to me is that you either have no idea how his kit works or you are just unaware. Scenario two team fighting: Again the W is difficult to successfully pull off especially on multiple targets. If Ekko manages to do it then yes he and his team will reap the rewards, AS THEY SHOULD! If he doesn't well it may zone some players or be wasted who knows, it is highly situational. Though some examples when it may be easier for Ekko to pull off a successful Parallel convergence would be if they enemy team is inside the dragon or baron cove. This makes it a bit easier for Ekko to successfully pull off the stun however it is the enemy teams fault if the whole group is clustering together and getting stunned by Ekko. You as a player have more than enough time to avoid the Ekko W if you do not then that is your fault unless something else is holding you down. As someone who has played Ekko quite a bit I must also say that you have to be extremely careful when going in. If I stun say two targets and there are three left over I will either die immediately because Ekko is extremely squishy or I will have to ult back immediately. Both scenarios are unfavorable for Ekko himself. Though in the grand scheme of things it may set his team up for a nice engage. As for the % missing health damage, well he is an assassin. I don't really see anything wrong with this. As far as I can tell every assassin has something similar to this. Diana's passive, Fizz W, Zed passive/ult effect....etc
In response to the second paragraph: I 100% disagree with the idea that if Ekko misses an ability there is no window to attack. If Ekko completely misses his q then that is a good time to be going in for a trade. His q assuming it hits both times would stack two marks followed by a likely E forward for the third stack resulting in a good trade for him. However if he misses he is missing two stacks and in order to get those he has to be right next to you for quite some time longer than he would like to be. During those few seconds you can burst the hell out of him, if you as a player can't win a trade like that when you have the advantage then I'm not sure what to say(I don't mean to be facetious). The original poster does go on to say, "that even if he misses an ability he's still incredibly safe and even might have a kill opportunity on you if you engage". I will agree with this to an extent. When his ult is up assuming he misses his q he is still relatively safe if you engage because of his ultimate. He can ult away to safety. However, what assassin can't do something in order to get away! Let's take a look at some assassins. Zed can W away if he misses a skillshot or positions poorly, Fizz can Q in for damage then immediately E to dodge returning damage or run away, Kassadin has his ultimate, katarina has shunpo, talon has his ultimate or a blink to enemy minions. The only assassin that doesn't really have an escape is Diana and even then she can use her q and r strategically to escape. Oh and as far as Ahri goes, yes if she misses her charm there is a window for the opponent to engage as there should be, but she is still very safe. If she needed to she would use her ult to escape just as Ekko would. If an assassin positions poorly or wastes a spell there is a window to take advantage of them but that is up to the player to realize and utilize. Referring back to the end of the piece I quoted relating to Ekko still possibly having a kill opportunity on you. If you don't take advantage of the window you created by dodging his q and somehow lined up with his time clone allowing him to ult on top of you for a counter engage, then that is your misplay. You basically took a good opportunity and wasted it. You should be using the window to force him to ult back behind his turret.
The final paragraph: Who people find frustrating to play against is many times their own fault for not fully understanding the inner workings of that champion or knowing what move to make when. Personally I enjoy versing Ekko. At this time I would like to say that I have not lost lane to an Ekko once (defined by taking the turret first and killing him more than I was killed), this includes all the time I spent on the PBE. This is not something I am saying with the intended purpose of coming across as arrogant but to simply state that vsing an Ekko in lane and winning is 100% possible for anyone. Have I lost games while there was an Ekko on the other team, certainly, have I lost lane to him, nope.
There is one final point I really want to drive home. Ekko is an assassin, just like any of the other assassins in league of legends he should be hitting extremely hard come mid to late game when dealing with non tanky targets(basically eliminating them in mere seconds). I believe everyone needs to take a step back from the Ekko is OP band wagon and analyze all of the assassins. What assassin in league of legends is unable to destroy another ADC or APC. I can't think of any. Fizz will ult, Q, and W(three moves what do ya know), Diana who I believe to be worse come late game than other ap assassins due to her being quite tanky (not OP just strong), Zed self-explanatory, talon etc etc.... Do you see my point? These champions can all be as devastating as Ekko can be. Some can be more devastating in certain circumstances some less in other circumstances. I really believe that if everyone took a minute to take note of what went wrong when they fought Ekko and fine-tuned their play against him they will have much more success. Finally all I have to say is the champion is not OP, blame yourself for your mistakes not the champion.
