Runeglaive Diversity?

Up until this point, I believe Riot has been trying their very hardest to make many picks and playstyles more accessible to the League community, but the recent PBE changes to remove magus enchant and replace it with the Runeglaive one feels very dissapointing to me! I have never posted a discussion post before, but this one change hits close to home! As one who dabbles in many champions (whom i suck at), I always love to come back to my off tank dps amumu jungle. Lets make it clear that I don't claim that my playstyle is necessarily meta or whats in, but I really believe the removal of the magus enchant will really affect people like me and others who like to play in ways that are unique. With hundreds of games on my mummy, I again, don't claim to be good either, it really is just an incredibly fun way to play the champ which I have come to love. The Runeglaive enchant's niche creating doesn't exactly help Riot's case for champion diversity, but will likely limit the ap jungle scene to a small number of champions who will no doubt become commonplace. Also, I want to note the addition's change really negatively affects spell based champions like Fiddlesticks. If Riot were to keep Magus while still implementing the Runeglaive, I believe that everyone would benefit, and we would continue to see many different picks in the jungle which would keep the game fresh and exciting! I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this, so discuss away.

Even after trying the cinderhulk enchant, which is meta for amumu right now, it still didn't fit my playstyle, and I lacked motivation to play him this way, so I stuck with my magus tank style. http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=tsukas3512

Something tells me that Riot won't be satisfied with having multiple items for a single class of champion. People seem to think that AP Junglers pretty much only have problems with their early clears. Yet the Jungle item won't help you with that, Because Jungle items need to be built up to.

Personally I prefer RuneGlaive because It fixes more problems than Magus. You get rid of the need for a major Mana Item without having to hog Blue buff for yourself. allowing your to go strait into damage.

But maybe we just don't have the whole picture yet. Riot seems to want to tinker with AP itemization as a whole, and that may have just as much influence as RuneGlaive does.

The way I see it, Runeglaive is gonna open up the path for a lot of new AP junglers to at least be tried out. While it's true that nearly every mage has a lot of trouble with their first clear, the same is true for tanks. However, because they scale with damage, it isn't long before they're clearing out camps like nobody's business. The problem, then, becomes keeping their mana up. Most mage junglers will therefore have to refuse to hand out their blue, which is suicide in some team comps. While Runeglaive might not have the raw numbers that Magus has, the AoE Spellblade procs will definitely help clears go faster, and the 8% missing mana restore means you'll never run dry.

If health is a concern, you could always get cheap defensive items like a Haunting Guise or Seeker's Armguard. However, most mages have some way to keep themselves alive built into their kit. This is generally a form of CC to help kite, and the more utility-focused mages like Lux or Lulu tend to have shields as well. While not all mages will be able to jungle with this, it will definitely help what are currently off-meta picks to become viable.

I personally can't wait to give jungle Anivia a shot. It'll be so bad.

The problem is that a lot of APs don't jungle because they get hit hard. If they brought back spell vamp (especially as a component of magus), it would help tons. I kind of got away with playing things like Malz, Liss & Brand in the jungle back when we had the spectral wraith item. They could also help mitigate damage for AP junglers, but healing (at least off jungle monsters) is what helped AP junglers in the previous seasons.

Honestly, there is one reason for Runeglaive. Look at what type of AP champions would do well with said item. Diana Evelynn Gragas (Granted a few more could use it, but these 3 would do well with it to some degree)

Now, look at the most recent champion release. Ekko Much like Diana he would do more than just "well" with it. He will do great with it. Looking at the timing of the item/champion you have to think one lead to the idea of the other. (Most likely Ekko lead to the idea of Runeglaive) Just from an outside view, this item seems to be made to help THIS junglers more than it is to help general AP junglers.

You could still build AP Bruiser Amumu with Cinderhulk to add to his AoE Magic Damage item 3027 item 3725 item 3001 item 3151 item 3020 item 3116

But I agree with your point. Most AP junglers will benefit from this change, but a few won't. Fiddlesticks comes to mind. He benefitted from Magus, but it wasn't even that great on him because he could get those stats elsewhere so it was basically just used for the smite buff. I might try a Tanky/AP Bruiser Fiddlesticks build soon

Don't understand why there are two ad items and they cant have 2 ap items for junglers. In the post it just says "it will be replacing magnus".

Thinking they just want to force people to play something differently and they know that if they erase an item and replace it with a new one that is exactly what will happen...instead of just making a second item that they have to tweak to be effective.

Now if their goal was just to upset people and make them complain on forums gg you got me.
