Mastery Thoughts. Ewwww....

I have to admit, the new mastery system is one of the worst things Riot has created. Switch it back as soon as possible. There are no choices. What is League for babies now? I want my Diablo style skill tree back please. This two choice path is pretty awful.

There wasn't any meaningful choice with the old Masteries. You basically had two main paths per tree, with a variant option that you could change during the champ select.

So now that's literally how the mastery trees work instead. It's less pretentious.

My only problem with it is jungles don't have many good options.

There are fewer options available.. The design of the tree inherently prohibits any possibility of unorthodox distribution of points between two trees or within each tree itself... Mainly for fighters there were viable ways to half and half offense/defense or go extra extra tanky with old masteries...

Also a lot of the choices presented next to each other can never be balanced amongst each other. There are a lot of garbage masteries currently. And since you can't go bottom heavy in a tree anymore this actually matters now.

Overall pretty crappy IMO. It was good "utility" was replaced with cunning though but that's about it. And I guess it's nice it's easier to fill...

The new masteries are a lot more high impact than they were before, and before it might as well have been 1 path, considering how very few champions benefited from custom masteries.
