Shen support?

I've been playing Shen after his Rework as a support. I went from level 1 - 3 in under 2 days with the help of some friends. I never really see a Shen being played support. I find him to go good with a Relic shielditem 3302 then built into a item 2303 Eye of the equinox. He has great sustain and if losing a lane can just Taunt a enemy under his tower easily picking up a kill on the person (Most of the time it's the adc.) Shen as a tanky support can just turn a lane over and save his adc with a clean 3 man taunt. Then flashing summoner 4 away. His dash would be up by then. Saving himself and his adc. So in your guys/girls opinion should Shen Shen be played support more often?

Shen support has always been viable even before the rework, the main reason people do not use him often is because there are supports out there with better peel and lock down (thresh, leona, braum, and nautilus all come to mind)

With shen in his current re worked form he is a situational support at best imo. Here is my reasoning.

Cons:

  1. Lack of cc. If you miss your taunt your adc has no peel in lane phase and potentially not im team fights either.

  2. Can only engage at short distances or by using flash to get in range to taunt. Vs leona or thresh who can engage / pick from much further away.

  3. Most supports will easily out shine you in lane.

Pros:

  1. Free trades if you go into a matchup where the enemy adc is completely reliant on auto attacks as opposed to ad casters. (good for facing vayne or kogmaw, not so much Graves and missfortune.)

  2. Global ult at lvl 6 to help other lanes who may be struggling (this could potentially leave your adc defenceless.)

  3. Does a decent amount of damage without building damage items.

Wow someone who actually doesn't act like in-game. I appreciate that. At the time of the Shen rework I was a support main well mainly Soraka. I see that Shen does not have the best sustain nor is the best Melee support out there. Most people see him as 2nd Tier. It is true that you can't do much till 6 and I know that. I find him to be the type of support that late game can set up kills with ease. Just was looking for some feedback and was happy to get some

Makior, I really agree with you on the pros and cons you listed, but I think its hard to put weight on each of them. IMO, the amount of damage he puts out without building dmg items is the main reason he's a good support. Along those same lines, your point about the lack of CC and whiffing your taunt is also probably the biggest drawback. If you miss that dash, it might just cost you the game.

All that being said, I think he's very suitable to play in bot lane and I've been spamming it since rework with pretty good results for a silver scrub.

He's decent, imo he does not see too much play because there are far more versatile/broken options out there.

I don't get why everyone went "OMG W" about the rework. Just play Braum.

I hated the Shen rework.

Maybe its just that I'm bored with traditional supports, but I think its a lot of fun to play Shen support and I don't see him as tier 2. I think the longer the game goes, the more it favors your team when you have a Shen support. Obviously at lvl 6 with his ult, you can make huge plays, but beyond that he exceeds the Leonas, Braums, etc because he can make the big cc plays with his E and can also act as almost a 2nd top laner. I <3 Shen.
