Why did Riot release Hextech when Lyte is on leave?

Raelaem··2 votes·925 views

Seems pretty rushed and un-thoughtful, typical money grabbing riot.

I also love how people are defending them saying "its a free system why are people complaining about free stuff"

You people are the people Riot has sucked in. It's not free, its marketing. It would be free if it didn't touch the store, but it does.

Now before you downvote me into oblivion, Lyte is on leave, and the major complaint about this new feature is the blind-sided approach of releasing it to a fractured community. What I mean is many of us knew about this new thing coming out months ago, many of us read the FAQ and interpreted it to mean if you are CURRENTLY bad then no fun for you.

It is my firm belief that Riot intentionally left this detail out about people who had past restrictions, even the ones who had a 1st time offense of a 10 game chat restriction. Why do I believe this?

Money grabbing Riot, will always be money grabbing, marketing is marketing, and if you can get people hyped up for months while its being tested and avoid any negative discussion regarding this minority then the people at Riot will call it a day.

Well here's the conversation that needed to happen months ago.

As a disclaimer, I would like to say that using this as a tool to promote good behavior is a FANTASTIC IDEA AND WELL DONE!!!

But the way you released it, and the method of promoting it, was really cloak and dagger and honestly I'm insulted. Not because I was bad and WAH me... No I get it... I don't deserve things. Its because you felt the need to take this route instead of directly going out and saying it months before you released it.

So in short, how about you just come out and say what you want to do, or have Lyte be the front-runner for this, because clearly nobody else can handle letting people down (even if they deserve it)

Ok.

First let me introduce you to the real world. Here in the real world no one owes you anything and you don't deserve anything from anyone. Welcome to life as an adult. Life isn't fair. It usually sucks.

Second. This is the first time in Leagues 6 year history that they have given anything away for free with the exception of maybe a handful of things through marketing stuff over the years. I feel an Alistar skin was involved in one of them?

Now is the HexTech system deeply connected to RP? Yes absolutely. It is another way for Riot to generate micro transactions and revenue. Welcome to every for profit company in the entire world. Now does the HexTech system also offer you the ability to collect LoL pixels for free? Yes it does. Point over.

There are people who feel entitled. Like the world owes them something. Or wonder why companies don't just give them stuff for free. I don't have a response to people like that. They are the kind of people still living with mom and dad or who are likely still being financially supported by their parents. They have yet to understand that the world does not give a damn. That if you want something earn it. That there are no freebies in life and that virtually nothing in this world is really free.

So friend... If you read what we both typed again

  1. You contradict yourself
  2. I'm not defending the people who feel entitled to free stuff when they don't deserve it, I'm defending the whole community for essentially being blind sided by something that should have been known months ago.
  3. Because of point 2, Riot has come off as a franchise willing to ignore/avoid a conversation for the sake of keeping their financial gain as optimal as possible.

So before you go on another "I hate kids who complain" tangent.

Go ahead and read what I'm actually complaining about. Instead of throwing me into another stereotype because it's easier for you.

First I am not your friend. Second negative 8 votes. Second. You are exactly the kind of person I described. Your incredibly false perception about how the world works leading you on some honorable crusade about "how this is a money grab". Of course it's a money grab. Everything Riot does is a money grab. It is a for profit multi billion dollar company. Welcome to every large for profit company in the world. Heck welcome to real life.

Ok.... Guy

First... who cares about votes? (one might suggest a kid cares about votes)

Second, what you perceive from a person is all about you, and how you see it. (Implying a subjective element, and therefor a possibility for never having a correct answer)

Third, you haven't actually tried to explain why I am wrong, you just point and say I'm wrong because you are say you are right (Sounds a lot like a certain presidential candidate)

Fourth, I could say how I'm X and Y and prove to you how I'm not the person you think I am just like you can sit there in your "command chair" and say "SHUTUP KID, I'M RIGHT" but this is the internet, the place where we can pretend to be whoever because screw our real life right?

Fifth, The reason you have a problem with anything I'm saying is because I'm one of those people who had a chat restriction, psychologically why should you care about a person who most likely made a game anti-fun for another individual. That's what you're doing isn't it?

Sixth, you don't want to say it, but you actually believe what I just said, because you just confirmed my thoughts when you said "Of course it's a money grab. Everything Riot does is a money grab. It is a for profit multi billion dollar company."

So now that we finally agree on something, and that Riot is a money grabbing company. Do you agree that they held this information regarding hextech qualifications on purpose? And if not why?

Thx for this most delightful conversation.... friend

It's in the store for RP for the exact same reasons Champions are available for RP - to appeal to those who are impatient. If you're patient, Hextech Crafting being in the store doesn't effect you in the slightest. No need to get bent out of shape about that.

Raelaem1 votes

You failed to understand what I was trying to get across.

Impatient or not, there will be those who need a chest or a key because RNG wasn't on their side for however x amount of games... oh look riot solved that problem... for just a little extra $ problem solved. Has nothing to do with patience or not. It has everything to do with marketing/promoting so the $ making machine keeps making money, and more of it.

I think it's great. Even if it takes a long time to get that skin from hextech, that's a skin that's going to actually MEAN SOMETHING to you as something you WORKED toward. Do you know how many skins I randomly spent a few dollars on and forgot I ever had it? A lot.

Raelaem1 votes

Not really sure how this applies to the question I'm asking. (how they released it, not telling community how it worked in terms of qualification until the day released, and not having Lyte around when it is)

But yeah the first skin I make with it will have meaning, thx!

disregardable3 votes

Hm. I didn't know Lyte isn't working right now. They probably haven't picked a replacement yet. They will announce who it is eventually.

Raelaem1 votes

Yeah I don't know, why release such a big feature without your main guy?

the Anarchit3cht3 votes

I've had punishments before and am completely eligible for rewards so your entire argument is invalid.

Raelaem1 votes

Not an argument how about you read what I typed instead of trolling

the Anarchit3cht2 votes

Your argument is essentially: They shouldn't have released Hextech chests because I'm not eligible because I got a 1 time 10 game chat restriction a million years ago(which is a lie and I'm actually frequently punished, thus the real reason for my ineligibility) and Lyte isn't here for me to complain to.

Raelaem1 votes

Read friend... please read.... I'm talking about how they released it, not why. I support the reasons they deny these things to toxic players. I Don't support the way they released the feature. The people complaining by saying "its not fair" could have all gotten this whining out of their system by the time it got released and came to terms with themselves by the time it came out.

But riot didn't give them that time to mourn or perhaps straighten up because they didn't want to have any negative conversation about a feature that would generate income.

the Anarchit3cht3 votes

If you have negative behavior, you have negative behavior. Riot doesn't want people to play nice simply for the fact of getting a reward. That is fake behavior and its obvious--plus as soon as the incentive becomes lack luster they revert to their old behavior.

Raelaem1 votes

A huge reason they have ranked rewards and now this is because of reducing negative behavior, anybody who believes otherwise is not thinking of the numbers. With every time something comes out that is directly linked to a reward, there is a corresponding number with rate of negative behavior.

Fake behavior or not, I promise you Riot doesn't care so long as you're not toxic. Fake behavior or not if you actively alter your behavior for the sake of a reward, then RIOT has succeeded in reducing negative behavior in their game.

In Psychology its called negative reinforcement

the Anarchit3cht1 votes

Actually, in this case it would be positive reinforcement. They want you reinforce certain behavior so they offer a positive stimuli(free stuff!) to do so. That being said while I agree they'd rather be happy with people displaying fake behavior, they ultimately want everyone to ACTUALLY want to behave well.

Raelaem1 votes

Wrong again,

"Negative reinforcement occurs when a certain stimulus (usually an aversive stimulus In this case it is not getting hextech/ranked rewards) is removed after a particular behavior is exhibited (in this case not being toxic)."

the Anarchit3cht1 votes

Negative reinforcement is such as they want you to be positive so they take away your ability to queue normally. Positive reinforcement is when they add a stimulus(loot) to make you repeat behavior(positive play). They aren't taking anything away from you because you didn't sign up with the promise of receiving loot. It's something they are giving to people who are being positive.
