what are some good mages that i can pick up
I only have veigar

It depends on your playstyle. Do you like to poke from a distance? You you like to pop in and delete people? Do you like mobility? Do you like to deny mobility? Do you like to nuke one target? Do you like to zone control?

I pick number 2 and 5
Then Leblanc?
2 + 5 Would be Leblanc, Akali, Diana, Maybe Katarina.
Syndra is pretty much a free win but she is banned constantly.
Brand, Anivia or Ahri are good too.
I think Brand is good.
Ayyyy. You like Brand!
What mages do you play anyway?
Or do you just play Sion mid?
Mages? Oh right, the squishy people that don't use knives.
I don't own brand, but I find his rework to be really interesting. I play Viktor a little, but the most common mage I play is Karthus.
I also recently bought Annie. Cause why not?
Edit: also Ryze. I like Ryze.
Nice.
Were you drawn to Karthus because of his death passive?
He was free and I wanted to try out his ult. I then learned how his Q worked and destroyed an Ahri in lane.
It was euphoric.
Are all pretty great choices.
Swain is in a very balanced state atm
Anyone that you enjoy playing on free week. No reason to spend 6300 on Vel'Koz only to find out you can't land skill shots, etc.
And if you only have one mage, you might want to focus on the low IP cost mages. Annie, Morgana, and Lux are all dependable mages that you can buy without breaking the bank.

They are pretty much always useful, versatile and safe picks in every meta and every patch. They have rarely ever been bad even if they generally aren't the top-tier pick (which coincidentally means they will rarely be nerfed).

how about viktor and brand
Both are also good options.
