What is the purpose of /all chat?

I've noticed that in many of the newer MOBAs, the ability to chat to the other team simply doesn't exist. After learning this a few months ago, I've tried to look out for instances in LoL that /all chat actually improved my gameplay experience.... and I wasn't able to find one.

I assume that Riot keeps /all chat in LoL for a reason, but I'm really unsure as to why. 91/100 times, it just provides a breeding ground for off-topic conversation or trash-talking.

As much as I wish Riot would respond, I'm left to ask YOU, random LoL player, what you think about global chat in LoL. Do we need it? Would our LoL lives be better or worse without it? /discuss please

Mind games, compliments when the other team pulls off a nice play. Definitely trash talk.

It's there for players to desperately seek validation from the enemy team when they feed only slightly less than the rest of their own team.

Personally I've used it for some hilarious conversations in the first 2 minutes or so, and occasionally when I find a good laning partner. It's true that the League community in general treats sportsmanship like a dirty word a lot of the times, but the only real way to find out the few who don't is to take the initiative yourself. They're people on the other side as well, and more than I initially assumed appreciate a good joke or a compliment sometimes.

you can disable it then it doesn't exist, at least to yourself. and it is disabled by riot as default.

IF someone makes a great play and kills me I'll give them a compliment in all chat sometimes. I've also used it at times when I'm feeling playful. I had one game where I splitpushed the enemies top inner turret. Just as it was about to fall the other teams Olaf showed up and in my rush to get the turret I missed with sejuani's ult. My team could not rescue me so I raced back toward my inhibitor turret with Olaf in close pursuit. When I finally was safe I just typed. "What an escape". Olaf grumbled a bit, but he was friendly about it.

Heck in one game there was a teemo on the other team and several members of the team I was on absolutely hate him so I playfully typed. "I hope you have members of the Society for the Preservation of Teemo on your team. We have dedicated Teemo haters over here."

It's great fun as long as you remember that LoL is a game. One classic event from a game last week came in a normal while we were waiting for minions to spawn. The person playing our teams Nasus said we should check out top lane. We looked and he and the enemy champ (another Nasus) were both dancing. They could have attacked each other, but were instead goofing off while we waited for the minions to reach the lanes. Everyone on my team was laughing at it the rest of the match.

Great fun because the players wanted to have fun, not just destroy each other.

Hey what is the purpose of you posting on these boards with a retarded post? All chat is optional man up turn it off if you dislike it instead of whine like a helpless infant ffs.

I like it when I am playing with a group of friends, we don't have to have a skype call open with all 10 of us instead we can just have the 5 for each team and still taunt each other and talk about random crap while we are dead or laning P:

In my games, /all chat is best chat. This is where you say "get purpled!" when you make a double kill on Lulu. When something hilarious happens, like say Lee Sin is Q2ing to a target that was pulled by Thresh lantern and ends up under a tower over a screen away, this is the chat that explodes in lols. I have near zero negative experiences with all chat in my games -- pretty much the worst case scenario is that you get the guy who is like "can't carry these noobs", and even then you can enjoy ridiculing his terrible attitude.

In my experience, team chat is where all the raging is. It's the chat that generates the vast majority of reports, and is much more likely to make someone actually feel bad about playing.

I would die without it.
