The Champion Rank System Disencourages Selfless Plays For The Team

Hi,

I know this post may be a bit controversial. But after a lot of games I recognized this pattern of how the Champion Grade System works. If you are support and have a support item in your inventory, the system counts more from your assists and punish you less from your deaths. But if you are a top laner and picked a full tank, the chance of you getting the S+ rank will be very very low, as your job is to** sacrifice yourself for your team in the time of need**. Even if you were legendary at times (most likely early games), one death in late game will ruin your score and eventually get you a A+ rank instate of S (happened to me a few times). It is much more efficient as a top laner to go split pushing 247 once you have like a 10/0 score and back off whenever there is a chance of you getting ambushed even if you have chance to hind enemy team from winning team fights or taking objectives. By not taking part of team fights, people can avoid a lot of sacrifices for the team and get a lot more CS which is also a big indicator for your Champion Grade. For all those lane bullies who fall off later, this seems to be quite unfair.

I personally** suggest Riot** to** increase the value of assists in the Champion Grade System**. Of course there will be people abusing WW's W or J4' E to get assists without even taking part of team fights, but it will still encourage more team plays where the Tank uses his life to trade for more kills for the team or objectives.

Man if you're going legendary just be happy that you're gonna win . I don't see the big deal with getting an S rank who are you trying to impress

Hextech boxes. Champion tokens.

Riot literally encourages it.

Boxes are nice, but I still need the @#$!ing keys to open the things...

Which are gained by wins, not S's. The more important resource is gained by wins, for what it is worth.

Edit: Also allied S's work for chests anyway.

Only if you're premade with them, so premades are encouraged to ignore their solo queueing teammates.

No, your job isn't to sacrifice yourself. Your job is to tie up enemy resources as best you can WITHOUT dying.

That's not always the choice you're left to make. If you're midlaner mispositions in a teamfight you sometimes have to make the choice to sacrifice yourself in order to preserve your teams waveclear. If you dont make that choice you lose the game.

if youre already legendary, you should avoid getting killed anyways and its better for your teammates to sacrifice themselves for you if necessary.

otherwise its a fuckton of shutdown gold for the enemy team. in that case grab a g.a. so you can initiate a turret dive or die for your team even on such a killstreak every 5 minutes.

Not really possible for a bruiser/tank. If youre too scared to die then the enemy will just walk over to your ADC and take their free win.

Even if you die and get shut down, if you peeled properly for your ADC they can likely turn the battle in your favor.

If your team is starting to lose, its still better you die. You dont have much in the form of waveclear, so making sure your mid/adc get out to defend as long as possible is vital for staying in the game.

Eh, I would rather win the game than lose with an S (except on Nunu, but I already got my Mastery 7 with him. If Mastery 10 ever gets introduced though, gonna play like a total bitch in normals until I have it).

And that's the point here. Why is that the choice people are making? It's an S with a loss or a win without. Maybe just remove S rank for losing. Yea it sucks but I see more S rank people on a losing team that were just trying for an S, not a win. Make people try for both.

When I lose and I get an S on Nami when nobody else did then I can let everyone know my team is a bunch of item 3152 MonkeyKing s

Well... I'd rather lose with an S if I get a chest for it, and that's the problem.

Regardless of the sacrificing part in your post I feel you are correct. I played a Game last night as Nautilus went 3/0/9 with second highest cs on the team and made the enemy rage quit at 20. Now if the game went on longer I may have gotten an S or I may have done worse who knows? But I think That performance deserved an S Rating. Owell what the hell do I know.

I mean it would be better if riot could track cc dealt to enemy team or multi cancelations. Then big igniters would have another value to weigh in their score. Also I believe all the grades are based on averages.

Trust me, getting an s as a tank is perfectly doable. You just need to learn how to carry even with a full tank build. Getting a buttload of assists doesn't always equate to carrying or doing well.

and really this is only true for the people of too low a rank to really be bothered with it lol.

But yes, the mastery system should probably be limited to not-ranked

One thing I've noticed is the longer the game goes on the easier it is to get an S or S+, I get an S in at least 3/4 games where it passes the 40 minute mark and usually get an s or s- in 30 minute games. but the only time I ever get an S or S+ in a 20 minute game is if I'm literally in the 20s for kills and have no deaths.

Or... we could make champion mastery go off of how much mmr/elo you've earned/lost

Although it'd have to be separate lest the normal players raise their pitch forks :s

Its still a newer system... it might require individual champion tweaking. It'll take time to gather data to see if, say mastery level 7 ADCs are more common than top lane tanks. Its a good point but only if the numbers are also reflecting that trend.

The whole grading system is seriously flawed. So many games where ive had fantastic stats across the board yet only end up with an A+ because my cs was a little lower than it apparently should be because I was busy farming champions instead of lane minions.

The system promotes greedy and selfish play instead of teamwork (like hoarding all the cs you can get instead of letting your adc who is behind have it) like you said, which is pretty sad for Riot to promote.

The whole system just needs to be changed around because as it is now its just not an enjoyable or healthy part of the game.
