Can We Just Give Supports Double IP in Teambuilder

That'll cut the 10-15 queue times guaranteed, either that or make a new support champ each week, I figured the IP was an easier solution.

Having people play support just for ip is like having people in ranked play free week champions, or champions that were just released. It's a disaster, and what'll likely happen is you'd have a shortage of adc's because they are the ones who have to lane with the random supports and probably wouldn't want to put up with the troll supports.

Cheney Lannister4 votes

Meh wouldn't bother me, since it's not ranked, and the match would start quicker. Those that don't need or care about ip won't be swayed to it anyways.

flibitydoo7 votes

That would be abused.

In my last teambuilder game (which happened a long time ago), our Jungle Rengar locked in the role of "tank". I got confused as most Rengar players will build full AD assassin. When I asked him about it, he told me that he picked tank to get the Icon.

In game he did, as I expected him to, build full AD assassin.

Giving supports double IP would just result in people picking Support role, but going to lanes with their champions as usual instead of actually going support.

I don't see it as that easy to abuse that way because it's just as easy for the leader to dump obvious trolls.

flibitydoo5 votes

No one complained in that Teambuilder game that Rengar picked tank. Infact, I was also going tank Rumble that match so we had that role covered (which was why I asked rengar if he was going tank since I was expecting him to go Assassin). We needed a jungler and Rengar did fulfil the role.

Rengar could have just as easily picked any other role and we still would have accepted him. The role that you select has no impact on the game and is merely there for communication purposes (and icon progress tracking purposes). So it can be abused. That Diana going midlane support is still going to carry games as any other midlane Diana assassin would.

Torm2 votes

But you're not going to be looking for a support if you need a mid laner, you are going to look for a mage. In the scenario you are suggesting you would never encounter the person that chose mid support.

ShadowNinetails7 votes

Did you play Team Builder at all right after they announced the icons? I had an assassin Braum in the bot lane with a mage Vayne , a tank Lux in, marksman Chogath up top , and me as support Khazix in the jungle. Nobody cared as long you did what your champ and position suggested you'd do and with a system like this EVERYBODY would queue up as a support regardless of what role they were actually playing so either you open up to supports coming in every position or it takes 3 hours to fill your team because nobody's queued up to your spec. Which do you think is more likely to happen?

Mikal Pikal1 votes

Yeah when I start a teambuilder I usually search for "any roll" for everything. You can always deny someone you don't want, but I don't want to miss the "tank" leona, for example.

I played assassin rammus for the same reason, point is he still played a jungler,he just figured nobody would mind and you could've kicked him if you had a problem with it,doubling ip for bot lane supports shouldn't cause much issues(except from very obvious troll who are very easy to kick(or ban by riot if they decide to go a different lane)).

This is a neat idea. Bonus IP for playing roles that are in demand.

I don't get why people don't like playing support it is quite fun actually. (Also, why don't you support then to make the wait time faster?) summoner 4

As a support main in LoL and Dota 2, I can personally attest that support may be fun every once in a while, but more often than not

My carry can't last hit My carry will jump into danger I'll get harassed by my team I'll KS by saving a life

And especially in league, support is a tedious role (except Blitz, Threshold, and Leona). You have to harass, protect, spend money on wards, and if you die, no respect. It's not a bad role, it's just unfufilling and very sacrificial.

I get why people don't like it.

A better solution would be to give bonus IP based on which role was needed most when you queued up. So you could be a bonus of like 25 if you chose a role that was kinda needed, or get a bonus of like 100 for picking the most needed role.

I would love this...

No! Thats a bad idea! The problem is not with the supports its with the ADC's! I quit playing supports the beginning of this year, coz according to some ADC summoners ; no mater what the Support must be more than PRO! He needs to be the adc's shadow and have infinite number of buffs and shields and needs to be able to place 12 wards at once all over the map and be the fastest of all the champions,

AND DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT KILLING A MINION!! "Soraka: sry, area spell" "D FAK!!! LEAVE MY FARM!!"

YET ALONE A CHAMP!!! "Lulu: sry, he was gonna escape... i just tried to slow him down" "KS! NOOB!! RETARD U ARE SUPP!!! LEAVE MY LANE"

Here whats need to be done; "ADC goes SUPP weekend" - Every summoner that has lost more than 60% of his games with an ADC pick is eligible to go and play as a support for a weekend in team builder and after 5 won games as a support he gets a Code for free skin for previously selected by riot support champ.

Then there might be less flame to actual support summoners and might make the things better. Supp is not gonna make penta every 10th game, supp summoners know this and they play for the Gj's and the TNX's from the team, and who knows maybe some ADC's gonna convert to supp.

Dryditch2 votes

I approve. Cocky ADCs, like cocky top laners, mid laners, junglers, and supports, need to chill out. "I had him at 1 hp for you, stupid ADC!" "Jungler! Where were you for that perfect gank setup?" "Hey Top lane/Mid lane! I was in the middle of my first clear and was on the other side of the map!"

jQuery1 votes

I don't know.. I still think that the ADC's in general are more prone to rage... I think guys who often switch between top tanks and supp are most calm.

Anyways i think that at least in team builder we will start to get more and more double "Bottom Lane / Any role". There is no fast solution on this.

But for u who think that all supports are noobs here is an advice; Record ur games (there is a program that makes 20mb replays). And if you finish a game thinking ur support was bad but at the end it turns out he was twice as less killed from any other summoner on ur team replay that game and try to see what is he doing exactly and try to think why. You might get surprised how many good supports go unnoticed - they cant much carry the game, even if they are good.

Dryditch2 votes

Guess so. I've had some really bad ragers in every role.

As a support main, we actually do stuff. Even if that "stuff" is nuking the Crap out of the lane opponent and picking up a ward or three so you don't have to get ganked.

think about 5 man premades who are all putting in BOTTOM LANE SUPPORT from all lanes.

it is easy to still abuse it.

use ur small brain of urs before u try to give an idea to a billionare company.

bonus applies only to people queing alone, problem solved.

any more insanely easy to solve issues?

tbh I don't like this solution, you are simply dealing with a symptom instead of the real issue, the problem isn't the long que time, the issue is most people don't want to play support, wouldn't it be much better to deal with that?

Hell,is this even a good way to deal with the problem? the double ip bonus is simply something which adds up,you will need to consistently play a role(or a mode?) you probably(the whole point is to give an incentive to people who otherwise wouldn't play support) don't want to be playing(and if you want to be playing it,the double ip isn't aimed at you anyway),imo trying to encourage people in this way can backfire pretty bad.

Omega3601 votes

You kind of can't solve it, but here is my idea: Give the people bonus ip for picking the most wanted roles, and have it give less and less for the 5 most desirable roles, the most desired giving the most ip and the least desired of the 5 gives the least ip bonus.

Problem is people WILL abuse the system and pick extremely dumb supports so they get more ip and there is no way you won't have people abuse the system.

Treeshrew2 votes

Please dont. I like not having to wait for my support role in team builder. Instant team everitim.

I think OP meant giving bonus's to those who select an appropriately "tagged" champion, so as an example if player 1 queues as Thresh with his role locked as support & his lane being botlane he would receive a "bonus", while player two seeking to abuse this locks in Zed mid as support as his role and his lane as mid, Zed wouldn't receive a bonus due to his champion not having the right tag or lane since Zed is tagged as an assassin.

that still wouldnt work.

it would force people to play support on support only champions.

what if i want to support (and im being serious) on a mage champion like xerath or vel koz?

that just forces people to go one way too much.

still wouldnt work.

i mean do you REALLY have to tag yourself as a mage? do you even do that now? why would you even do that? besides support in bot lane basically says you don't take cs,it doesn't mean you have to play sona, honestly people would just leave the support as "bot-lane any-role" but there would be issues with marksman coming,so people just tag it as bot-lane support, they generally don't care what exactly that guy will be,as long as he leaves cs to the marksman.

This could be would just lead to abuse from ip farmers in Teambuilder so that no one will want to use Teambuilder. If that doesn't happen, this could be abused if everyone queued up for "support" but actually played other roles. For example, Zed as mid lane "support."

HDPixel1080p1 votes

That idea is spectacular, but easily abused. There should be a bonus for picking one of the 4"in ddemand" roles

I support all the time. It just makes me mad that I can't play mid or top every so often, because those are always filled or called in any other gamemode

Yeah you're right why limit it to support, any role in demand should get something extra. Something has to balance the discrepancy of bot lane in general. A reward for making the experience better by playing a high demand role just seems right imo.

Though currently it's a sellers market as support, you can get in a match within a minute if you want, which is why I do like playing support when I want to hurry and play a game lol.

I like to support with odd picks, such as J4 support, and rengar support and Panth support, etc. I tend to do well with them(gold ranked). I;m too lazy to go above gold because i just do it for the skins so not sure how viable these are in higher levels of play. Haven't lost yet though!(at least with j4 support)

Ur supporting is called Troll-picking, pay attention, the role is called SUPPORT.

Slowing enemies for 1 sec with a huge cool-down is not much of a support. Hell if that's the kind of kit(one small slow, and a stun or knock-up) to classify champ as supp, then Jinx or Ashe are better supports than any of your 3 above.

jQuery5 votes

U need to fulfill that role, not just say it...

Wining doesn't have anything to do with it, playing meta roles does not guarantee a Win, and also playing tank or assassin with ADC bot doesn't mean a Loss. I did not mentioned Ashe and Jinx for nothing; have two friends who play bot together with those two champs. And if they can proper CS in the first 15 min they snowball the game and end it in 25.

But they do not support each other! Its completely the opposite they started to play like that for a bet "who will get the most CS in the same lane on the same side!"

My point is if some one wants to play any other two roles bot its completely fine, and opponents get confused often when u break the meta so it may be even better for u. Just don't lie to your self's that you are supporting by role, that u are supporting so the squishy one on ur team can get feed 10 min in (then the support knows he done a perfect job with the great team mate), u are as supportive as any other team mate....

But summoners, don't invite a support in a game if u cant even see how much he is paying attention to you and tries to help, yet alone appreciate it.

And then you get everyone playing the support role for every thing they play. Oh, you're playing adc/top/mid/jungle, why does it say support? This is very true - to get the icons I've qued as bot lane tank, fighter, assassin, and mage. I've played nothing but alistar support, but ppl don't care. They want the game to start so they take bot lane anything. If we had double IP for ppl queued as support we'd just have every role queued as support and still have the conflicts.

Maximum Morde1 votes

Just do what I do and pick the support position but pick whatever champ you actually feel like playing. Then your team gets to decide if they want you or not when you get into their game, so its all fair. They can wait longer, or take you playing whatever you want, their choice. They can't come back and call you a troll later for it because it was their choice not to kick you.

Shosuko1 votes

Why don't you queue up for support yourself?

What Riot needs to do is put in some kind of "fill" feature where you can view team comps and pick accordingly.

I played dota warcraft, and play lol in grn server not pro, but i'll tell you my experience

supports in dota aren't my thing, most of them are squishy, most of them are early game monster, you have to play aggressive, and... they are poor, IIRC support in dota is a hero that need not much gold, has strong early game to keep away their enemy from carries or rape them before they do it to us

I love supports in lol we have sightstone, we have supports item, they can scale into lategame too, supports aren't wards carrier because everyone has to buy wards, ofc, you have to protect adc and face stupid things adc will do, I played many other games and went through this too

I know why people don't like support most of the players are killer, and dota make support fit the most player, while LoL care enough about non-most of the players

I play Braum Janna Alistar Leona Sona Taric and love playing them more than lich, lina, venge, ogre magi, etc
