Attitude Tracking
Hi Team,
I was thinking of ways we could improve the online culture of LoL, specifically helping people deal with losses in constructive manner and decreasing the instances of verbal abuse. I was thinking that a page that tracks you attitude in game over time might help players recognise negative patterns of behaviour.
For example if the system could determine if you had a positive or a negative attitude (I'll get into how in a minute) then it record and display stats such as:
Are you positive or negative depending on win or loss. Are you positive or negative depending on size of win or loss streak. Are you positive or negative in game with certain characters (perhaps due to win/loss rate). Are you positive or negative playing with random players versus people you know in general. Are there particular players you play with that affect your attitude Are there particular game modes that affect your attitude. Are there particular stages in the game (E.g. early, mid, late) that affect your attitude. Is your attitude affected by time of day, perhaps your getting grump as you get tired or are more positive in the mornings. Is your attitude affected by length of play, perhaps you need more breaks. Do you interact more positively with players from a particular age, gender or region?
All theses stats could be displayed ad charted on a page for players and overtime may help indicate areas requiring improvement, provide tips on how to improve in particular areas and chart changes (progress) in behaviour. At this moment in time I'm proposing this as a tool to help players realise problems they may have regarding attitude and not as an insta ban tool. E.g. If the player historically gets negative after loosing several games in a row the system could suggest the player takes a break or even just notifying the player may help them guard against being negative in the next game.
So how do we determine if a player was a positive or negative influence in a game. Firstly the current tools user to report of honour a summoner could be used. Also I propose some research into using automated sentiment analysis to determine if a comment in the chat log was positive or negative. E.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentiment_analysis. My initial testing with a few of the python toolkits out there is promising (ntlk and textblob) but I haven't yet found a sensible way to record or export a chat log from the LoL client (if anyone from riot could assist that would be awesome).
Thoughts, comments, suggestions all welcome.
Regards,
Shabs
