Morellonomicon should not be core.

Morellonomicon being the go-to sustain item is having an unintended side effect of making sustain heavy champions much weaker than they appear. Champions like Aatrox, Swain, Vlad, and Warwick lose a large chunk of their power but not because the enemy bought a niche counter item, Morellonomicon is currently core on almost every mana using mage. Either the grievous wounds passive needs to be removed and given to another item or Morellonomicon needs to be nerfed to not be a must buy item. Its passive is just too overbearing against some champions to be a strong purchase in every game.

I find it funny that your proposed solution is to nerf Morellonomicon rather than to just buff Grail. Mages don't like being forced to build Morellos as is, hurting them further just to help Aatrox and co is dumb.

In any case Morello likely won't be core next patch because Riot is doing the sensible thing and buffing Athene's, so it should be the staple mana regen item now.

This, the only people who will likely still buy morello's over grail, are those who don't really need the mana regen and would rather just have the extra 20 AP Malzahar is a great example.

Unless they're buying it to specifically counter healing of course.

The ENTIRE item library needs a thorough review. Items need to be redefined and reworked from the ground up. All of them.

Nomnomnom was niche back when Athenes did something.

It's Riot's hamfisted attempt to balance mages by deleting them from the game backfiring.

As has been said, nobody buys it because they like it. They buy it because they need it. And they need it because all the better options got destroyed.
