Confused about Champ Lvls 6&7

I am very confused about the new 6 and 7 lvld champs The thing Im confused about is when you go to make your champ lvl 6 or 7 you need a champ shard or permanent champ Im confused as to whether or not the champion shard or permanent champ HAS to be of the champ youre trying to level? Say.. Im wanting to make my Jinx lvl 6, Do I need to own a champion shard of her to make her lvl 6 or can I use any champion shard? Thanks.

Yes, it has to be a shard/permanent of the champion you're leveling. You can disenchant them for Blue Essence which you can use also, and Riot said they'd be adding an option to buy it with IP in a later patch so you don't have to rely on RNG to get them.
