Pushing Mid

I'm a fairly new player to league and I was wondering when is it right to push mid. I play a lot of anivia and ori. When I play anivia I generally freeze until my mana pool is built up (tear+catalyst/roa). Once I have these items I shove hard to make my opponent have to farm under tower in hopes that they'll miss more cs and to allow me to roam. With ori I only really shove when i plan on backing. Should I be hard shoving once I hit a power spike or generally just freeze unless going for an objective(drag) or backing.
Thanks for any responses!

You don't really freeze mid much as those two because you can only really freeze when you have kill potential on the other laner and that isn't as present mid, especially with the increased gank potential

The general rule of thumb is last hit the first 4 levels. If your champion has good wave clear at this point then shove the other person under tower and roam Top or Bot. Do that about every 2-3 levels. If you pick up kills and are clearly stronger then your laner, then you would push the lane and go for the tower. Once you have the tower, push every wave you can mid as far as possible without putting yourself in danger and keep roaming while the other mid laner tries to get back into the game

alright. When it comes to taking towers I feel like since most mages take towers so slow early roams to take bot tower are beneficial. However, I play the most immobile mages lol so I should probably just stick mid for the most part. Thanks for responding!

Don't try to roam with Anivia, just keep lane pressure so they can't roam/help their team.

If it's a dragon, push the wave out quickly and help them.

I don't think you should try to trade with Anivia unless they can't force a fight which you would need your Q to dissengage. Ofc, if you can get a crit E in from your ult, do that, but you know better than I about trading with Anivia.

Yea I really only trade with anivia if I can get the ult e or q e otherwise I just farm
