Vel'Koz changes why they make him weaker.

The reason Vel'Koz's kit is fine as it is that Vel'Koz has clear defined weakness that can be over comed by smart positioning and playing it safe earlier game by farming. In this meta of top picks mid are some of Vel'Koz hardest counters being Zed, Ahri , Talon and Fizz. It really helps to have your W to safely farm your lane without the constant fear of being all ined at any moment.

Passive Scaling-I don't see why it needed a buff it is pretty good as it is. If your going to mess up his ult you need to increase the stacks duration by levels.

Q Change- It is fine and much needed since Vel'Koz is a mana hog.

Why the W change is awful. You are weakening his W because it is a mindless farming tool? That is stupid then I think it is mindless that Uydr can sprint in Bear stance forever and Blitzcrank gets tired after a brisk jog. Your SPICE things up is just going to cripple Vel'Koz's farming ability as a mage with no escapes going into the middle of the lane is a death sentence since top junglers will turn your arse inside out.

E Change- Why even nerf it? Atleast give it a wider hit box or faster projectile speed. An unnessary nerf to his only escape. Maybe shorten the cooldown

Why R change is a stupid showy gimick- His Ult is now so shoe horned into his kit that completely removes his teamfight threat except for the tank. His ult's big utility wasn't as a big hurrah death beam but as a mean to help clean up after fights. I cvan't tell you how many teamfights were won by blowing up my passive at the end of it. That extra true damage from blowing up a stack has ended more ADCs then I can count. This research thing is a stupid Gimick that in THEORY looks cool and devestating to use but it won't work out the way Riot hopes.

My Closing thoughts I love Vel'Koz since his release played him everywhere even top and carried myself with him. I even have him as my background I know Riot won't allow him to stay as he. I fear he will be the Gangplank of mages after this a weird Re-re-re-rework waiting to happen. I really really hope they pull the plug on his rework. I do not want my favorite champion to get ruined.item 3070

I love Vel'Koz; he's my favorite champion. I was really worried about the rework before I heard specifics, and the changes won't be as bad as you say.

Q change will be nice with the new itemization since, if you're fancy, you can CS a line of 3 creeps with it by proc'ing passive even with low-rank Q's. 150% mana refund, yay.

W is SORT OF weaker. Consider this: Old W total damage had a 62.5% AP ratio New W total damage will have a 40% AP

Old E had a 50% AP ratio (it was a one-point wonder for a lot of the game anyway w/ low base damage) New E has a 30% AP ratio.

You GAIN 40% AP ratio on your passive proc. So let's say you're farming the wave. You can W-W the whole thing, which had a 125% ratio and proc'd passive once. Now it will have (40%+40%+40%) = 120% ratio. It's 5% less AP damage. Barely noticeable. A valid point is that, although it's pretty much a wash, some of the damage will be true instead of magic, and since creeps have 0 MR, magic pen will no longer amplify that damage against the wave. That's correct, but it WILL do more damage to champions and, I suspect, new Vel'Koz will prioritize AP over mpen in build path, meaning you'll do more damage to creeps. The change to W-W for creep pushing power is essentially net neutral.

Furthermore, let's look at W-Q-(wait)-Q, or W-Q-E to farm a wave. Since the Q ratio hasn't been reduced, if you can proc passive on everything you're looking at a loss of 2.5% AP damage to whichever 3 creeps you hit with the E, a gain of 17.5% AP on whichever 3 creeps you hit with the Q, and 150% mana refund from Q. *He's not going to be worse at farming; if anything he got better

The worst-case scenario with his ult that you're describing is fairly rare. See the thread I've written up below. He's a little worse at something like a Q-R pick on a squishy target, but not by a whole lot, thanks to more base damage and a greater AP ratio on his ult. I think, if any of your concerns are founded, it would be this one.

I'm not trying to be argumentative with you. As a fellow Vel player, I'm just telling you not to worry, that it won't feel so bad, and, in many cases, will feel the same or better.

The new VELKOZ does about the same damage to squishes. Nothing in that department is changing. VELKOZ did not get weaker. The extra damage to his passive is supposed to compensate for the damage nerf to his w and e. The ult can do full true damage so the small difference in damage won't matter. The only major difference is that the new VELKOZ can better deal with tanks. VELKOZ's damage did not get weaker.

His previous 'strength' was to spam spells from long distance

His new kit encourages you to actually combo and makes him a far more unique champion.
