azir should start elixir.

item 2039 you get 25 ap at level 1 and and 10% cdr which increases attack speed. plus you get more sand guys. compare that to the other ap items like spell thiefitem 3303 with only 5 ap and ringitem 1056 which gives a measly 15.

bottom line? no one listens when i say do this. i dont got azir yet but i see the advantage despite it not being permanent.ill have azir in a few days and when i get this ill tell people whats up then.Azir

The key to any elixir start: get a kill while the potion is in effect. If you can do that reliably then yes it's a good start as elixir pays for itself and then some. However, a competent opponent will know this and intentionally play passive until your elixir wears off, leaving you at a dramatic disadvantage.

The main question is "do you get anything from the small AP/CDR boost that will consistently make it a better choice than a more permanent item start?"

Spellthiefs edge is a support intended, gold generating item.

Dorans ring gives 15 AP, health, 3 mana per 5, and the mana regen on killing a unit. 10 AP for 3 minutes will not win you the lane, having no mana in the phase will lose it for you.

The problem with starting that is that you will be severely behind once the potion wears off. However, if you do go that route and are successful (get a kill at level 2-3) then you can grab an early Chalice of Harmony and be able to take harass to balance out the lack of damage. The difference between the Red Elixer and Blue Elixer is that most champions who benefit from the Red elixer have enough base damage to be fine without that first item, you know?

I wouldn't recommend it, but then again I've never tried it. Just make sure to get a Faerie Charm instead of just potions -- that might make it worth the investment and risk.
