Baron endgame scenario advice needed!

My team and I had killed 4 out of the the 5 enemy teammates leaving the Morgana the only enemy alive. We started the baron and with all 5 teammates taking the baron. Morgana was on the other side of the wall of the Baron pit attempting to steal the baron. Being the jg, I was low health from the fight, but had almost full health teammates. We all were taking baron, I happened to be the one tanking although I was low health. The baron had about 2,000 health left and my teammates stopped attacking baron to attack the Morgana. While all 4 began attacking the Morgana, I began to take all the baron damage forcing me to smite the baron early to stay alive because all teammates decided to attack Morgana. In the end, I had to smite early because if not I would have died to baron. My teammates all attacked Morgana and she ended up steal the baron. My question is, should my team have ignored Morgana and just taken the baron with me trusting my smite? Or should 2 teammates should have attacked Morgana leaving me with one teammate with baron? I would like some feedback
