Aurelion Sol and Runes Reforged

Recently put a ticket in for this but the rioter that replied, Rioter 0rphan, thought it would be best to post it on the boards. I think it's a good idea so I'll put one here and on the PBE boards just so more discussion on this can be done and hopefully more Rioters can see this.

So I am an Aurelion Sol Main. Loved the champion when it first came out, put in work to get mastery 7 and all that. When the Runes Reforged came out I thought it would probably be good to go onto PBE and test out all the new rune/mastery changes to see how it would all work with Sol. After going over this that and the other thing of learning all the runes, reading through them, and so on. I've found a big problem for Sol. Aurelion Sol can't really proc most of these runes.

Well, not "proc" as in it's impossible for him to do so, but as in a lot of the runes require some 3rd spell or thing from Sol, that being an Auto attack. While this isn't so difficult for most other champions, Aurelion Sol is sorta a niche problem. A lot of the times he relies on his passive to farm, trade, initiate, and so on. Usually Sol doesn't auto attack unless in laning phase, which isn't really much of the whole game.

Since an Aurelion Sol player is usually focused more on lining up their stars for hits and getting stuns off, do you think it would be better or possible for some way to have Aurelion Sol's passive proc some of the Runes? Runes like Fleetfoot for bonus movespeed or Soul collector for the initial hit come to mind for some examples.

Glacial Augment seems like it could be really good on him. A slow on auto, building from 25%-40% over 2s with a max cooldown of 6s PER ENEMY that scales down to a 3s cooldown? I feel like it would be incredible for keeping enemies in his stars.

It's because Riot forgot Basic attacks aren't the only sustained damage. They gave AA sistained damage their own tree but all Mages must somehow fit into Sorcery, some desperately stealing from Domination those few runes that don't scream melee assasin/diver.

Too many shit for burst, one entire tree for Marksman and AD Carry Skirmisher, barely any shit for DPS Mages.

As another sol main, phase rush is pretty easy to activate when you stun auto w, like i dont see the issue. and if you burst with r q w it works 2. The comet keystone doesnt feel good at all but i tried it for the heck of it. Atleast it lands if you engage with Q. I havent tried glacial aug yet but in general i think the runes are fine. You just need to integrate auto attacks more in the flow of ur combo

Every mage has difficulty procing the new runes anyway. Sol is fine.

I'm currently feeling the same thing for Singed , I have get my auto, Q, AND E on a target to proc these. Do you know if item 3151 counts as a different instance? Don't have a pbe account so can't check.

It shouldn't be a problem.

A. Sol's stars rotate fast enough that you can get 2/3 procs with them alone (and they mentioned on the dev stream that each star counts as unique), so you just need to damage them one more time to proc it.

If GLP procs it, there you go. If it doesn't, you still have your Q, R, and basic attacks.

If those end up being sub-par, there are other options that are pretty good.

Glacial gives you a slow in the lane phase that works pretty well, and upgrades your GLP considerably.

Comet is a fairly reliable source of damage for Sol, with the combination of his innate CC and his item slows.

Fleet Footwork, because it now scales with AP, gives Sol (as well as other mages) a decent source of sustain. Sol can use it as last resort mobility to get himself away from melees when his R/flash are down.

try using summon aerie instead tho i found the damage was pitiful.

A lot of mages actually don't get much from new runes, but I believe this is already a problem they are trying to fix

Inspiration runes are the best for mages, try them out. So far my favourite is Kleptomancy.

uhh it can be the same spell it is just seperate instances of damage for instance procing a lux passive with an auto only counts as one instance of damage because it is calculated at the same time. so hitting passive 3 times with in 2 seconds would proc the 3 hit ones. (I am not speaking nonsense I have a PBE account its just how its word seems misleading)

Two options I see being reasonable that wouldn't literally be a hand-out:

  • Each of his 3 stars counts as a separate spell.
  • His innate and his W count as separate spells, depending on whether his W is active.

Honestly, though, I think there's a lot more mages than just Aurelion that will struggle to trigger these runes. Most mages have at least one utility spell, and I think the majority are damageless (it's the lucky few like LeBlanc and Syndra that deal damage even on their utility spell).

I read somewhere that each of Aurelion Sol's stars count as unique spells!

AlistarMilking10/5/2017, 3:26:46 PM1 votes

Uhh, each star counts as a different hit for the purposes of Electrocute and Phase Rush, so you can still easily proc them with your stars alone, or a Q>star>GLP, star >AA > star etc etc

Do Aerie or Comet work with his kit?

Anyways, yeah I see like his kit isn't really made for the new runes and maybe the passive should proc the spells.
