how do you lane vs illaoi?
She seems stupid broken, I rarely play top and I never want to if shit like that exists in this game.
:the question is legit though, how do you lane vs that hoe?

Side steps go a long way.
There are a lot of champions top lane who counter Illaoi and are strong at the moment. Anyone who can blind her (Teemo), dodge her empowered attacks (Pantheon, Jax), CC her reliably (Cho'Gath, Gnar, Garen), has a lot of poke (Gnar, Teemo) or enough mobility (Garen, Riven) is a good pick (if you are Garen, spin in circles around her. It will drive her crazy). Also, Nasus just eats her tentacles and loves getting cursed. Renekton is better in drawn-out skirmishes (but don't let her poke you). A good Kalista just dodges everything (Q, E, Ult). Some tips:
- An aggressive Illaoi has very little Mana sustain. If she starts with anything other than a Mana Crystal or Corrupting Potion you should taunt her to get rid of her Mana and then commit to fighting.
- If she pulls out your soul you can either act like you're committing to a fight (e.g. attack --> disengage --> attack --> disengage --> and so forth) so that she will waste her ult when your soul is about to disappear, or you can just walk out of range and get cursed. Dodging tentacles is annoying, but it's better than losing half your hp and letting her have free reign.
- If you do decide to walk out of soul range do it ASAP. Not only because of her damage, but every time she hits your soul with a tentacle she will heal up a ton.
- BUY EXECUTIONER'S CALLING.
- BUY BOOTS.
- If she uses her ult while you both have a lot of life, just walk away. Save your dash (Gnar's hop, Vayne's tumble, Wukong's dash) for disengaging. You can just walk up to Illaoi to attack her. She has no mobility.
- Destroy her tentacles after they spawn to make use of the cooldown on her passive.
- If she roams, dodge her E and then fight her. She won't have enough tentacles to sustain herself.
- If you are Jax do not stun her with your dodge. Make use of the dodge time so she wastes as many Ws as possible.
- If she sieges you and her allies aren't backing her well (= every Solo Queue Game Ever) let her pull out the soul of one of your tanks and then commit to fighting her. In the mid game you should be able to burst her before her teammates can react while Illaoi is delayed because of her E animation.

Take Nasus, Push your lane with your E and bait her E. Walk out of range and free farm Q stacks off her spawning tentacle. Rinse, repeat, ping when she roams and stack some more.
Take Tahm, tell your team to stay away from top lane, build tanky HP and AS (With titanic hyrdra, nashors) Farm with W from near or under your turret. Eventually she will get bored and try to kill you under turret.. then you stun her there, eat her, and spit to win.
I imagine it is a sustain thing. She whittles you down with her tentacles. If you don't have sustain or anything like that I imagine it is really rough to stay in lane.
Just survive, and know she'll be useless after.
Ranged champs have no issues with her. I've seen people try to play her support and she is almost always a free kill in the bot lane. You could probably pick Gnar into her without any troubles. You could Heimer her and compete over which will be the most annoying.
If you can side step, play Lulu. She has absolutely no problems fighting her and if she doesn't build Early MR beyond a cloak you'll destroy her
Illaoi is super easy to beat in lane, she is actually incredibly underpowered due to several issues with her kits design. Her Q and E can both be very easily side-stepped (they also lock her in place with their animations so you can punish her for missing the) and her W has short range. Kill her tentacles whenever you can do so without taking free poke. Kill the ones that are furthest away from her or she will deal a lot of damage while you are trying to destroy it. If she does hit you with her E, most of the time you can just fight her. If you can't fight her than either stand there and wait for it to go away or just run out of range and kill the Tentacles. When she ults just back off and get away from her Tentacles, once she has no Tentacles she is basically useless. In general never fight her when she has 2 or more Tentacles around her, she gets a ton of HP regain if they hit you.
Try picking a Ranged champion into her, there is nothing she can do to you. You can also try someone like Volibear who is very tanky but still deals a lot of damage. Illaoi needs to buy AD to deal damage but her kit forces her to buy Tank items, so she shouldn't really be a threat if you are building/playing accordingly.

Dodging her tentacles and killing her tentacles when you easily will really help you out.

Start boots, focus on farming instead of fighting, kill tentacles every chance you get without harming yourself, and don't pussy out if she lands and e (nor be stupid)

No, that literally is how you beat her.
Her Tentacles are slow (while not in ult mode) and her e is a skillshot that is blocked by minions
She is relient on positioning relative to her tentacles - try do distroy them without getting hit by her e
If she hit you with her e ... you got 3 choices
- you can leave the ghost range, resulting in getting cursed - assist/kill 3 tentacles to remove
- wait 10 seconds - she'll hit your ghost at that time and you'll get "free damage"
- fight her - each time you hit her, the gost duration is reduced by one second (starting at 10)
If she uses ult .. don't fight
