You're literally going to use smite maybe once every game and who's to say it works out and you steal dragon/baron?
Meanwhile, flash can save you, get a kill, outplay somebody and tons of other things, ghost too(though less so), exhaust can save you or secure a kill, heal can save you and possibly several allies, ignite can secure a kill, teleport can secure or protect objectives... and yeah.
The pros for taking another spell outweigh the pros of taking smite.
The jungler however makes it outweigh the pros of taking anything else because he has to jungle which he can't do without smite, it also allows him to smite birds and clear wards for ganking, smite wolves and catch anyone trying to counterjungle or about to catch you counterjungling, smite gromp for the buff, smite Kruggs for the survivability, smite red and blue for more sustain and overall just makes it worth it.
But if you take smite and "make it worth it" your jungler is going to be pissed. So no, its not worth it.
