Veigar changes? ....?
Rage posts aren't usually my thing, in fact i think this might be my first post. But I'm pretty curious about the last string of changes regarding AP assassins. I'm going to focus mostly on veigar in hopes that we can save him before hes lost forever, but fizz is also a concern and will be used as an example.
I totally get why they're scary, they promote a playstyle that punishes any small mistake and that least to being awfully brutal for those on the receiving end, they also kinda crush newer players and having champions that do that isn't great for promoting new players to join- they simply wont enjoy themselves playing against the "get deleted" type of champion. So in order to make everything nice and fun for all i can totally see why it is absolutely worth putting effort into balancing extremely high dps champions above most others, they are likely to be the ones you will remember most.
So, before i start questioning decisions made by this beloved company which happens to be a large source of my entertainment, i need to preface this by saying I'm really not up to date on the newest events, changes since what I've learned or really anything regarding the community. So if you're asking me why I don't just leave the board and educate myself in the first place... well the truth is I'm so lonely i need to vent on the boards, and I'm also very lazy, either way I'll just go ahead and assume il be receiving all the corrections fairly quickly anyways.
Alrighty, so DFG is a strong item, I do fully understand that, but nerf it to the ground all you want, it is a huuge detriment to the game to flat out remove items that offer and expand on any kind of creative play possible in league. It gives champions with very few damage dealing spells a new "spell" to cast and allows ult dependent champions to have fun and useful alternatives to cast all the while not being useless when their ults are on CD! What more could you ask for?! I realize that for the average person who casts DFG then precedes to blow all his spells for a kill that this doesnt apply, but that person is arguably not making good use of his spells in any case because the over kill would be veeery real. In either case those players and that playstyle does exist, which is why DFG could most definitely be nerfed to the ground and it would be fairly justified, even if it was changed altogether! The idea is still that it's existence is enjoyable, and important to giving players something to consider than simply q,w,e and r.
Regardless it is gone, maybe theres a concept I've missed, or maybe I'm just a little bit butthurt, and if thats what you think, then you would most likely be correct, but in either case it's time to move on. So getting rid of DFG does affect a few champions, being those few for whom it was actually used, Fizz and veigar being a couple of them. So with DFG gone, those champions who make use of it are automatically at a loss, consider them mildly nerfed, even! Now i get fizz was a big problem and so maaaybe he deserved further nerfing, and that him then being over nerfed into the ground is a whole other topic. But what about veigar?
What about Veigar indeed! Nerfing his ult- totally understandable. Nerfing his E, pretty brutal for lots of reasons, primarily making his W veeery hard to hit, since decent players will rarely be getting stunned with the delay on event horizon itself. But okay, sure i like the whole "trapped in a cage concept, it might appeal to the 50 Shades of Gray fans and well, why not reach out to an interesting demographic! But nerfing the stun duration would have been a muuuch better option, since now you can effectively consider his W nerfed by extention, because frankly, it ain't going to be hitting anyone very often at all. But why change the Q? i mean, with no more DFG, a nerf on his ult and the fact that enemies arent likely to be stunned OR hit by W means that getting deleted is already not too likely to happen....so why get rid of his only reliable source of consistent damage? I mean this partly because skill shots don't always hit, but also because hitting a champion who is behind in minion line is not incredibly likely to be possible. So all in all he is left with only his ult hitting the target, and for reduced damage, isn't that a little big strange?
My biggest issue is probably the justification: Your Q will farm so much more AP killing 2 minions at a time! That logic kiiiiiiinda borthers me, i fully intend to Q every minion in the wave anyways if i can, all the while not pushing (because my Q is cleaving and dealing collateral damage to the wave) by simply waiting for the Cd to come back up. I will have the same bonus AP, simply a little slower (if even, since cleaving a minion might not kill the target behind... who will die to minions before the Q is back up). I don't know, i don't reaaaaally get it, and im too lazy to play test on PBE, but it seems like a ridiculous logic chain that got someone to come to the conclusion that you will "farm twice as much AP because Q can now kill 2 minions at once". Might even seem a little laughable, but hey!
So why all the changes riot? I'm curious! And am I totally wrong on my assessment of the damage that may be done to Veigars playability?
TL;DR
nerfs dont make too much sense.
