Fizz and Nid were reworked because of their toxic gameplay
but after rework they can still build the exact same item and be played the same toxic way as they used to be and be totally viable

Nid fell off late game. After awhile the only thing Nidalee as good for was throwing spears and nothing else. Now she's more versatile than ever, she can go top, Jg, Mid, Supp, and even ADC. I would say her rework was successful.
Fizz did too much damage too quickly. Nobody likes to be bursted out. Now he does even more damage, but at least you get to see him dance around you. There is now a chance of counter-play with Fizz by using AOE effects and succesful thethers ( Karma, Morgana and Le Blanc ). I consider FIzz, though I hate him, another successful rework.
Reworks are aimed at not destroying the core champion mechanics, but embracing their differences. Nidalee is uniquely different from Fizz. They also add some mobility to keep up with the game and make some real major plays.
Let's look at Nidalee. AP, AD bruiser, AP - reworked, AD bruiser - nerfed until AP go buffed to compensate. Nothing Riot did fixed anything about her obnoxious gameplay... Ah right in Season 3 she was only spamming spears. In season 4 and 5 she was spamming spear for the same exact damage then jumping at you across the entire screen then executing you for just as much damage as spear did.
Let's look at Fizz. AP assassin, deemed problematic/OP. Reworked, people picked him up and played as AD bruiser that was even more cancerous than AP Fizz, because he did just as much damage except had 4 tank items. Nerfed repeatedly until he became played as AP assassin again... there are two changes between season 4 and season 5 Fizz - he doesn't have Grevious Wounds and now has 20% damage amp.
We can also add Cassio to equation, but the conclusion will be the same.
Upvote from me.
Fizz's rework seems fair to me now that his W has been made more sensible. Of course he can still assassinate you but at least he's somewhat reliant on hitting a skillshot ult to do that now. He was far less so before. And I don't see a problem with his build path being the same, why would it need to be changed?
Nidalee goes in now rather than just staying back. I'm pretty sure the only thing that would convince you that she was played in a different way would be them replacing her spear with a different ability.

I'd kinda blame that on lack of item diversity. It's not that they build better with other items, they just choose to go with the items that are good in general.
I still see Ryze's build Frozen Heart, even if they waste some of it's stats, just because the item is good on them. May not be the best, but it still works.
define toxic.
Nidalee can not still be played the same. The rework absolutely killed Nidalee, where she could heal your adc to half hp from dead and win lane, then snowball from there into a secondary apc. They should add a passive that doubles the amount healed when used on allies. I only got Nidalee for her former support power. She's pretty much dead to me now, and I've never had a problem laning the new Nidalee. Infact, it's so easy, I just go Lucian into her, so that when my actually adc pick fails, I can carry the game in their place. Or if my duo is adc, I go Akali into her. Easiest lane ever. You want to be ballsy, take Katarina into her, snowball, solo carry the game.
