@Riot Changing Ruby SightStone

I've been playing LOL competitively since season 3 and have been a support main for the majority of that time. While things like trinkets and the gp5 items have been added and items that were amazing cough philostone, HoG, FoN, ect, cough have been removed, a support's role and gameplay has stayed roughly the same.

That was until the 3 wards max rule (and 1 pink). The problem with this is that supports (mainly in soloQ, but this occurs in ranked teams too) get abused for not warding enough, even though they might have all 4 possible wards placed. Other people have their trinkets, but, due to tradition of seasons past,** it is expected of supports to light up jungles like the 4th of July.**

Junglers typically get sweepers, the adc that i see usually trade out for blue trinket, top and midlaners stick with their ward totem, but rarely update. Thats 4 (support) + 1 (Mid) + 1 (Top) = 6 wards usually placed. That's like... less than I would have at the 3 minute mark back in season 3.

item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070Leona Braum Nami Soraka Sona Lulu Lux Annie TahmKench Morgana item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070 item 3070

What I'm saying is: There needs to be a way to get more wards down for supports . You may be thinking, "Hm... how can we do this without going back to a land with no FoW?"

Solution: Make the Ruby Sightstone Upgrade allow 5 wards to be placed.

At the moment, the Ruby Sightstone upgraded is rarely, if ever, purchased before every other item is finished. All it really does is give bonus health. This would give supports (and SS junglers) a reason to upgrade early; 2 more wards.

I know there is a reason why you capped wards, but capping them at 3? seriously?

@Riot At least consider this. Please.

EDIT (after more thought):

What if the sightstone not only had charges, but also had stacks. Stacks were earned from destroying enemy wards, takedowns, epic monster takedowns, and for each minute that you had a ward placed.

At 5 stacks wards gained 25% increased vision for 5 seconds after being placed.

At 10 stacks wards charges are replenished on enemy wards killed, and enemy champ takedowns

At 15 stacks: wards dropped reveal surrounding stealthed units for .5 seconds upon being placed. (I feel this would be super useful, but not BROKEN, seeing as its not enough time to do anything, but enough time to be warned: HEY, THERE'S A MINE OF SHROOMS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!)

At max stacks (IDK... 20 maybe?): Evoluves into Spirit Stone

  1. Max wards placed allowed increased to 5
  2. Unique Passive: When an enemy champion is slain (you must have gotten at least an assist), their spirit is released from their body and is trapped for 30-60 (increased with levels) seconds. The trapped spirit acts like a ward, but cannot be destroyed and is visible to both teams. (Think Scuttle Shrine.)

That isn't the fault of sight stone, that's the fault of your cheap team mates that can't spare 250g for such a good upgrade.

They added that limit in the first place so that your team would actually help in the vision game since previous it was "all the support's job" and basically made it no fun to be a support since all you ever did was ward, ward, and ward some more. And you had to constantly spend your still very limited gold income to do that.

The reason they made Ruby Sightstone a poor choice is that it's intended to be upgraded when you've finished the rest of your build. If it was a good upgrade (such as the change you suggested) then it would become MANDATORY to upgrade to ruby sightstone and we'd end up with the previous problem of supports having to delay building items they want just to solo fight the vision war. There was a red post recently stating just that.

That said, I do agree there could be some changes sightstone could use, namely either being cheaper, having alternate build paths (such as a small ap sightstone, armor and/or mr sightstone, etc.), and/or refreshing ward charges without having to recall (Seen supports frequently have to roam for minutes and not be able to back for more wards because everything is being contested and they need help.)

Huh... I guess it never occurred to me that making Ruby sightstone a mandatory early buy a bad thing. Thanks for your input! :)

However I do still think that somehow increasing maximum ward allowance to 5 would be at least worth a discussion, if not a PBE appearance.

EDITED AND CHANGED AFTER MORE THOUGHT:

^ Would that work better? I'm new to making suggestions, but I think something like this could have potential. Then again, it might not...
