AP Malphite
What's a good build for it now? Mid Obvi.

Off meta ftw. I actually did this when I was new and I took malphite mid because I didn't know who was good in what role. I just picked him because he looked cool. It wasn't until I learned mages are mid and later assasins let me zed and talon. Go roa, rabbadons, sorcerers shoes, morelinomicon, zhonias, and void staff. That's how I beat a wukong mid.

If you want to be totally ham just go

Ah, just how I like him. One thing though, I absolutely hate having to buy any CDR but it is extremely important especially to AP Malph especially midgame (your entire existence is your ult). I go 30% scaling CDR in runes, so I get to rush
. The only CDR item I find worth getting is hourglass for its dual scaling on Malphite and the active. My final build is usually
.
is risky, but risky sums up AP Malphite in general. I get the
either as a first item or after the

and only upgrade if the game goes well (if you're not snowballing, you're probably losing anyways). Sometimes its worth just getting an early
component of
to increase your ult uptime but not worth finishing early due to the lousy AP it gives.
No mana items? His mana costs are incredibly high and even non-cdr Malphite suffers from them.
never had a problem with ap malphite, but for tank malphite top, definitely. might be the difference in setup and playstyles.
as tank malph top, i spam E and W pretty much every time they are off CD to both farm and harass, so gauntlet rush is pretty much mandatory.
as ap malph though, I rarely harass except to just use up mana when I have nearly 100% mana so that mana regen and dorans ring passive is not wasted. Strange concept, I know. I only increase the poking at level 5 to prepare for a kill at 6, which is pretty much keeping them at kill range (about 3/5 hp of a squishy), which you don't really have to spam for unless they are sustainers, in which case, there might be problems.
that being said, for ap malphite, i run scaling mana regen yellows instead of armor which might explain why i never had that problem.
If their team is relatively squishy or only has one tank,

I always build abyssal scepter because the damage amp will help you out plus it gives CDR
his ult has a 100% AP ratio so once you get one or two items it's normally more than enough to chunk anyone as is
the hextech also gives you more upfront burst as well and a bit more utility
