What Stops Pyke From Going Mid?

Was just wondering if Pyke if really going to be played as a sup. Aside from potentially bad wave clear, I don't see anything stopping him from going mid or jg, unless he just sucks with those items. To me, at least, he seem's very Talon-eske. Thoughts?

Jungle maybe, but not mid- Playing a solo lane would be a waste of his ultimate and the gold sharing mechanic it has.

His lack of a good poke option and his inability to do a ton of burst damage means he cant hang with the mages and the assassins.

JG can be an option though

He is going to be squishy AF with no poke and only initiations. His waveclear is his Q and i could see someone like a tank positioning themself to get hit by it to get closer to him xD and fuck his day (would be near impossible to farm as him if the enemy had a lead xD). He may heal enemy poke dmg with his passive but that forces him out of lane. I don't see him being any good in mid or top to squishy no poke. JG i am more on the side of if his Q CD is low enough it would be possible. SUP just seems to me his best role in most scenarios

Pyke cannot build health. All bonus health he buys is turned into AD. He also has only his passive to sustain himself. This means he loses out to anyone with an in combat heal or passive sustain that doesn't depend on taking damage then leaving. Pyke is going to be very squishy more than likely, which will cripple his solo laning.

We do not have enough information on his kit to know where he can go other than support yet.

Wave clear, simple as that

His wave clear isn't the best unless he has absurd numbers, his poke is kind of "eehh" too, so mid lane is kind of out of the mix already

It highly depends on his numbers and cd's to say if he would be viable mid/jungle or not, if anything I would say he will be a jungler with a weak first clear, then gets tiamat and starts to gank or something like that.

I don't see him being played support tho, any tank support will fuck im over.

Pyke Mid and Jungle, even Top as a Counter Tank, imagine this story: All is doing well in lane since they don't know how to face your champ yet, then as lvl 6 hits you get close to the kill and right before you ult the jungle rushes in and tags your kill and gets credit for the kill and giving you the assist.

If that doesn't deture you maybe this will...

Much less you have 2 dashes, a hook, a stun that is on one of those dashes and finally you have stealth. I could see GOOD, AMAZING, and FANTASTIC Pyke MAIN that main him everyday or aren't in the elo they belong in, taking Pyke in other roles then support and doing it with flying colors. I could see pykes building some HP items just for the extra ad on it paired with the effects. Like item 3022 all the hp would become AD and now you have AD on a on hit slow item.

But either way you look at it tho, he's going to be balance for SUPPORT the role riot said he is made and created for. Sure you can mutate it but why? Why take it there when if you can run it there and be good at it, that means you can go support and do it even better.

Its like saying Those Xin, Lee Sin, Kaisa, Lissandra, Yasuo supports can be in there lane, sure they have things in their kits that make sense for the role but they:

  1. wont see a team for miles that accepts them and doesn't flame them for doing that
  2. Their kits just are meant for other roles and thus prosper in those roles more then supporting.

Go ahead and experiment as pyke, he isn't even out yet but don't be shocked if it doesn't work based off my points alone.

Pyke is the new Lee Sin, he can do it all... until Riot nerfs him in a way where he will stay a support.

Wave clear basically. However, there are items that can HELP with that, unlike many other champion weaknesses. Getting a Tiamat doesn't make him a wave clear master, but it makes it acceptable. There isn't much stopping him unless he just doesn't have the damage compared to other Mid Assassins, although the CC he offers sounds like it would be more useful in a gank than 150 or so more damage.

im betting hes is going to be mana gated.

I think his jungle clear will struggle a lot early. HE will probably have longer cooldowns on his moves (because they are all some form of engaged tool) and his passive regen only activates off of champ damage. So he would completely lose that part of his kit. I think it would’ve feel a little like kindred outside of the jg. You can do it but the potential that comes early game will be so situation compared to if they are placed in the intended role.
