How do i play Ryze properly?

EUNE bronzie noob here, how do i not get stomped on by every single mid laner when i play Ryze? my mechanics and game knowledge are pretty bad, so maybe it has something to do with that, but I'd still appreciate any sort of advice.

like earlier today I was playing against a Zed and I couldn't even touch him, while he was constantly harassing me and the moment he hit level six i had to go back to base every two minutes to avoid certain death.

my favorite role is support, but i don't want to play Ryze in that role since i can't estimate the damage output, which usually leads to getting flamed for stealing kills.

It definitely has to do with have bad mechanics. You need to be able to dish out the right combo at the right time.

even if i could land the right combo (which is quite difficult to do with Ryze) I still can't get close enough without getting ulted into oblivion. zed can pretty much 1 shot you or make you go back at any given point in the game. Should i just play safe and sacrifice the laning phase? that seems like the only option i have against burst damage/assassin playstyle.

I'm not a Ryze main so I'm not the best source of info for this but a quick get-away combo is E-> W.

With most mages, wave manipulation is vital when up against assassin. At level 1 you're going to need to let Zed push you in because he has better waveclear since hard pushing him in level.1 with E will drain your mana. As soon as you back and get your tear you can hard shove Zed under his tower and you should. Remember that his shurikens deal less damage after passing through a unit so if you can manage to keep him under his tower and dodge his Qs you'll be fine.

If Zed is going to ult you try to manage your runes so your shield will come up and use this combo on him before he blinks back.

E > W > Q > E > Q

This will time out from being able to blink back and from there you should be able to pummel him.

Use the minion wave a lot. His e spread is your bread and butter. Go into a bot game and do like 10 games. Work on pressing e to last hit to get the spread onto your renemy then q into it. Just practice this till you get it down. Remember against ad opponents you have the range advantage so try and keep that distance.

Also Ryze is a later scaling champ so don’t waste too Much time trying to hit your opponent. Just farm the best you can. He has great wave clear and good roaming so just try and get tier and roa then you can push and roam.

Team fight stand behind front line but in front of adc’s. That way you can load up the enemywith your e combos to burst them down while your front line do their work. Magikarpused fly has a good video where I learned the different combos.

I don’t Main Ryze but I accel with Battle mages like him and he is the one I have been learning so I hope some orb these tips help.
