First Season Provisionals!

Yes I'm not level 30 yet, but out of curiosity, how does the ranked system work. I believe there is provisional where you play 10 games to determine your rank. Yet, I'm very confused how the system works as my friend has been placed in silver 4 just by winning 3 out of 10, another getting gold v just by winning 5 out of 10, and another winning 7 out of 10 and receiving bronze 5. Some questions i really want to know is how you rank is determined in your first season and how it changes afterwards.

Thanks!

Ranked System:

First time, you're bronze. Now you deal with AFKs, ragers, feeders, poor warding, .... You slowly begin to become toxic.

Alternatively, you group with smurfs or pay for carry. You get better, you win, you get out of elo hell.

Enjoy your two options.

"What factors tie into how I am placed?

In addition to the outcome of your 10 placement games, your ratings from the previous season and the preseason are taken into account. If you have never played ranked before, your placement games are the only factor. Note - the maximum placement is Platinum 1."

This is from the ranked FAQ. I wasn't able to find it clearly written anywhere, but an older Riot FAQ said they initially place you at the "average" level if you have never played ranked before, then those 10 placement matches determine where you end up.

Edit: Your friends are at all different levels based on where they ranked previously. If they never played before, it's still up to the individual placement matches. For example, winning against a group of Bronze 5 is not as good as winning against a group of Silver players. Also, losing against Bronzes hurts them more than losing against Silver/Gold.
