League has got to be the most frustrating game out there.
I'm currently Silver 4, have been playing since mid way through season 4 and am addicted to league, or more specifically ranked. There's only very few things that I want more badly than to get to Gold this season. I've made it all the way Silver 1 promos only to fall further and further down the ladder. Promoted to Silver 3, back down to Silver 4, you get the picture. I've got 3 + KDAs on EVERY SINGLE CHAMP that I've played more than 5 times this season. I've tried every role (except top, because I just don't like fighting melee) and no matter what I do, I just can't consistently win, or rather win enough for me to make a solid elo gain. The day before yesterday I went on an 8 game win streak with Kha'Zix jungle, only to go on a 6 game loss streak. I truly, truly believe that I belong in a higher elo and my performances would agree.
I know people say: "You can't win them all, some games are impossible to carry!", but this season I've felt that my own performance simply doesn't matter. You can do as well as you want throughout the entire game, make smart decisions, outplay your enemy laner, but if your team just doesn't know what to do, you're still going to lose. I rarely flame, I don't have enough energy to do that anymore, I just play my own game and I always do well. ALWAYS. In fact, in my last 20 games, I've never had less than a 2.2 KDA. Now I know people say well maybe that's because you just avoid dying even in favorable situations but this is also not the case. There's a fine line between doing things "for the team" and throwing the game because you are the only fed one on the team and need to stay alive for your "team" to do anything at all.
And yes, I'm also aware that mathematically this is impossible, since if you always do better than your opponent you will eventually climb. I must have the worst luck in the world then because there's always someone on my team whose out to get me. I'm currently 215-200 this season, yes I've played 415 ranked games, climbed from bronze 2 to silver 2 within 250 games and am now just going in circles.
I can visibly tell how much better I am than the person I'm playing against and yet it's so hard for me to turn my advantages into won games. As I said before, so often I feel like my performance is a non-factor in the outcome of the game.
If I play ADC, (my favorite role up until season 7), it always takes me so long to push my advantages since I first have to burn through heal, two flashes and an exhaust in order to get a kill, most of the time anyways. Even if I have a CS lead, which I do almost always, its not enough for me to compensate for my midlaner, whose already 0-3 by the time I get my first kill. It's insane! Not to mention the fact that if they have a Zed, Talon or any other assassin it really doesn't matter how well I do, I'm still going to get popped. Sometimes it's so bad that I get Zhonyas as a last item because I have no other choice. Teams in silver provide close to zero peel and it sucks. Also, in lane, you are so reliant on your support to make things happen. I feel like you can be substantially better than the enemy ADC but if their support is better than yours, you'll still end up losing lane or going even at best.
So, with that in mind, I tried playing support, I figured if supporting was so important for laning phase I could simply get my ADC fed, give him/her the peel that I lacked when I played ADC and quite honestly it worked out rather well. Until they don't push. My god is it frustrating when you are up 10+ kills and somehow the enemy team has still gotten more towers, dragons and barons than you have. I tried suggesting things like: "Cait, can you push bot?" or "We can get dragon if we win a teamfight" but quite honestly it's just hopeless. There is no structure, no smart play in silver, it's just go mid, Mexican standoff, clown fiesta fight, winning team gets (1) tower, rinse and repeat.
Jungle is my new favorite role because it allows me to "control" the game more than any other lane, focus on what's important (dragons and barons) but again, as is often the case in silver, there's already been 2 kills by the time I've done my first clear. And I'm not kidding. I understand that obviously not every lane is going to win but I really don't understand how people can go 0-5, 0-6, 0-7 coming out of laning phase. You'd think that after their 3rd death our Fizz mid would've learned but NOPE! I just feel like that's an automatic lost game. What bothers me even more is when I gank a lane multiple times, get them kills and then they still feed the enemy laners. How is this possible? This is why I've started taking the kills when I gank, but again, I have an issue of my team (myself included) just not pushing. I make sure to get dragons and barons, as is my responsibility, but towers are always slow to be taken. Should I be pushing as a jungler? When I play Kha for example I find that I push incredibly slowly, and could be doing much more useful things with my time. In silver, as a jungler, during laning phase, I find that I'm literally just running from lane to lane because there's a skirmish happening every 20 seconds. How are you even supposed to getting anything else done, when all you do is run around chasing kills? One could argue that I could just ignore these fights entirely but then when the enemy does get kills, how am I supposed to pressure the objectives when they are stronger than me?
Even though I have a positive winrate, I consistently carry and win, I'm just fed up with all of the games in which you play so well and still lose. You literally do everything in your power to lead your team to victory and you still fall short. And this happens SO OFTEN.
I've always wanted to know which roles/ champions do boosters use to get the best results. Maybe I need to completely change my mindset.
Someone please help.
