You can pick a "counter" to him, but you only "counter" him until about 6 minutes when he buys the resistance item of his choice. You should not need to constantly gank a champion all game just so he doesn't turn into the final boss at 30 minutes.

If you bite the dust only 6 minutes into the game while playing a counter of your lane opponent, please consider that your nerf call might be completely irrelevant.
Not to mention, he is a late game champ, ofc he needs to be monitored, just like anyone who can snowball really hard.
