Not being able to surrender, how do i cope?

83sqojSQ6j··0 votes·1,274 views

I really dont know how to handle this. All I end up doing is calling people retarded. I mean how is it any fun being in a game where the score is something like 4-23, your team has 1 afk and 2 people still wont forfeit with 2 inhibs down. I don't get why I should get punished for wanting to afk this bullshit.

Why do I have to wait around another 10 to even 20 minutes watching as the enemy team stalls to get baron and 5th drag and all the turrets before they want to go end just because its fun killing people who just walk out of there base to die over and over and over again. Please explain what i should do I dont know how to deal with this game anymore.

Put up an honest to goodness fight. Honestly? If people wont surrender, take that time to practice playing from behind, or in general, figure out what your champ is capable of.

I have been in your shoes man, exactly as you describe. Its frustrating. But don't flame, just make the most of it. It doesn't happen often, but I had our afk come back 36 min into the game once, and because the enemy team was toying with us, we were able to mount a stupid, and I mean STUPID comeback. :P

Just keep your chin up and try to learn something new about the champ you are playing. You never know, you might find out that you have been playing too passively for that champ.

TLDR: Keep playing, don't flame, try to learn something new about your champ. And above all stay positive. :) I garuntee you will get honored by the opponents when you say gg :) afterwards.

I appreciate your advice. It really helps me figure out things to keep in mind.

Shahamut,

Putting up a good and honest fight is fun occasionally, and the best matches are ones where you think you'll lose and turn it around, but at the same time, the intense concentration required in those games wears people down. Last night I ended up in 2 50 minute marathons that probably shouldn't have gone that long. After that I was burnt out, but went into 2 more games where I didn't perform well because of how drained the games had made me. (and those were 2 games I won.)

Mounting a comeback is great fun. The 2nd of the 2 games from last night was one where the other team had Katarina in the midlane and as often happens she got a great start. By midgame she could burst down just about any member of my team and we didn't have much CC to slow her down. Several members of my team were down on our chances.

However, we started using the fact that Kat was the only member of the other team who was fed to our advantage. The other members could be burst down and Kat couldn't be everywhere, so we spread out in split pushes. In the end we were able to storm the enemies base. And it was a comeback. I peeked at the gold advantage after the game and Kat's team was up several thousand gold in the mid and late game. We only turned it around in the final minute.

Of course, this game had me and the enemy top laner bantering in all chat. It was all in fun, and helped keep the game interesting. But I don't want to play this game every time, or even more than once a night. (and I had 3 long slog matches yesterday in total.)

It's easy to say "keep fighting". Which I'll do if a surrender vote is refused, but at the same time I end up thinking to myself. "Why don't these idiots agree to the surrender." Worse in some cases you can tell who is refusing. (I had one game where 8 surrender votes went 3-2, and all three yes voters called for votes regularly). However we had a duo who refused to surrender even as they died regularly and never grouped up for team fights. Those fights aren't winnable and the playing from behind is just wearing when you give up so much power to fed members of the other team.

There's no easy answer.

Shahamut1 votes

I absolutely understand how you feel. The question at hand however is "what CAN I do?"

We can all banter and rage about ways we think the problem should be handled on RIOT's end. Everyone is the best back seat driver in the world. No insults intended by that, just pointing out its easy to see problems, but even our solutions would have problems.

All that to say, it is what it is right now, and the best thing you can do is try to suck it up and bring something to the table. And honestly, I report people for intentionally stalling out games. That is in itself a show of poor sportsmanship and a complete lack of caring about other people's fun and enjoyment.

If we are going to be a community of gamers, we need to respect eachother. If 2 members of your team want to keep trying, don't hate them, but just keep trying. Sometimes, good things happen.

If you are waaaay ahead, respect the time of the other players and just finish. Its just rude to stall out games for no reason.

Sciaphobia231 votes

I actually agree with this, it annoys the hell out of me when the game is lost but people wont surrender just to troll but I found I actually don't mind trying to find better positioning to pick off higher leveled enemies who are dominating.

Actually twice now I have turned it around from this even though we are 4 and got a win through pure luck and taken opportunities.

A few nights ago I ended up carrying the game as support after a horrible start since our ADC rage quit after going 0/3 less than 8 minutes in from pure man moding everything, thus leaving me with a solo lane.

A lot of the time if games are well and truely lost and you feel theres nothing you can do, just farm and act as though the game will continue, that way if it does you can make a comeback.

Thanks I appreciate this. Good thing to consider next time something like this occurs.

GundayMonday3 votes

Do this. Or disconnect so leavebuster bans you and no one has to play with you.

Deep Terror Nami5 votes

Why should the 3-4 other people on your team have to deal with people like you, get punished because one player is afraid of the other team and just afk's or doesn't put any effort forth? Why does their 20 minutes of trying to win get thrown out the window because 1 or 2 Onitok's on their team are calling them retarded and guaranteeing they lose the game?

83sqojSQ6j2 votes

I'm not saying why should they put up with me. Why can't i just leave the game? Why am I forced to play a match that is no longer winnable or otherwise be forced to getting 20 minute queues before i even get into a real queue.

How is a comeback possible from an insurmountable lead among strangers who have no coordination, and teammates unwilling to fix their mistakes?

How am i the one who guaranteed the loss when a) its a team game and b) 1 person has already left and the enemy team has already accumulated enough advantages to end but refuse to just to stall out?

Why am I the only one owning up to the fact that there is nothing to be learned from watching people stall out games on purpose who already have a ridiculous lead over you just because it's fun to stomp people. Why do I have to waste essentially 10 to 20 extra minutes of my life feeling miserable in game that's suppose to be me having fun?

Why do you come across as a fucking jack ass with no real advice, just condescending spews of literal diarrhea that don't enlighten anybody on any situation in any post that you make?

You know what don't answer the last one I already you're a fucking ass muncher, I'm better off jumping off a bridge.

Deep Terror Nami6 votes

Oh no, I'm an ass muncher. You changed my mind; your toxicity and refusal to assist the team when behind what you alone perceive to be an insurmountable deficit, is reasonable and warranted.

Not. If you can't stand losing a game to superior opponents, maybe you should stick with vs. AI games or single-player only?

You honor me with your praise. I didn't think I could be both an ass muncher and a superior twat. I can't imagine the jubilation your teammates must experience when they realize who it is that is gracing them with his presence, as you boost their morale with similar commendations such as "retarded ass munching superior twats".

You must have the proudest parents.

mvargus2 votes

Valkyrie,

I think both you and the OP are getting way to personal here. Worse, you aren't paying attention to what he said.

He's not saying that he is afraid of the other team. What the OP is tired of is a game that has turned into a kill fest where one team is 15+ kills up in the early going, but instead of pushing to finish the fight starts working on team fights, baron, dragon, etc. When that happens you can get 2 people on the losing side who go "We can still win this!" even while the team gives up 2-3 kills a minute and falls more and more behind.

I've been in that situation a few times, and it can be torture to play a game that goes 45 minutes or more when it was over at 20, but 2 members on your side refused to give up.

What the OP is asking for is some way that the game engine can detect when a game starts to tilt that much and have it adjust the surrender limits. Say if a team is down 20 or more kills the requirement to surrender goes from no more than 1 person rejecting to any majority voting for surrender can end the game.

Deep Terror Nami2 votes

Personal? I thought I was being subtle about how he shouldn't sit there and insult his team and act like he deserves some sort of sympathy for doing the right thing. Damn.

mvargus1 votes

I wasn't giving him all that much sympathy. I do understand where he is coming from as I've had games where I wanted to start beating my head on my desk because surrender votes were failing, but we had no chance of coming back.

And I'll note I've been part of some really surprising comebacks. But those almost always include the team coming together to fight, some coordination and dragon kills and champs that scale well into late game so they can comeback if the game runs long enough. Those games are fun, often emotional and usually have me using the honor initiative heavily to honor both teams, even if the comeback ultimately fails.

But you also can get games where there is in fighting or arguing in chat, players who AFK or just someone who is on tilt and dragging your team down. Then you end up desperately wanting to get out of the game no matter what.

Sadly, I experienced this a few days ago. The fight was actually in our favor early, but an argument broke out between the ADC and support on our side (over a "kill steal") It slowly got more toxic and after 30 minutes the support player decided that they were done playing. They moved their character over by Baron Nashor's pit and sat there for the next twenty minutes while occasionally saying "Hey has the other team killed Baron Nashor?" in all chat

What should have been a winnable game slowly turned into a 4v5 beatdown. And my team's chat got nasty as we realized what this one player was doing. A surrender or ability to bail from the fight would have been most welcome. Not because I was being nasty to others, but because the game wasn't winnable due to what had happened.

Not every game is salvageable. It might be that the OP is being condescending and overly sensitive to the situation. I've noticed that a lot of people playing LoL don't understand/know how to lose gracefully and tend to want to take their marbles and rush home when the game starts to go against them. (first blood GG anyone?) But I like to give people some benefit of the doubt. There are games that are just unpleasant and getting out early would be nice, but you can end up trapped by the rest of your team.

83sqojSQ6j1 votes

Don't bother trying to make sense with this idiot, he's just looking for reasons to stay on his high horse because if you notice, ALL of his posts on the board are just him giving the contrary, being smug, and never being constructive in any way. Besides I'm not looking for sympathy I very much understand I'm an asshole to my teammates. It's something I really do want to fix and understand why my actions aren't ideal. Usually, however my Bm really only occurring after provocation from the systems impending constrictions or the very teammates who antagonize you, or flame back, and then vote no just to spite you.

I just want constructive ways to cope with this seeing as Riot finds it offensive to leave games no matter what the reason is. Your grandmother could be dying and they'll still hand you restrictions for this. The worst is when people purposely vote no because they find it humorous to spite others.

Besides that however, I really fail to see how the game that is suppose to be fun can be fun at all from that point on, and in fact, is quite self deprecating to be placed in a situation where you are forced into coercion with people that are literally driving you mad. Just because I don't want to play the rest of a match doesn't mean I don't want to play the game. Its hard to make a game fun when you are forced into this type of thing. Not to mention the frustration that then carries over to your next match.

I admit I'm not the kindest person on league, but still, I like to enjoy myself just like anyone else. It's hard to do so when your short a person and your team is getting fucking stomped, yet the remaining teammates ignorantly like to give themselves a pedestal for whatever reason such as "I NEVER GIVE UP NO MATTER WHAT", or "FUCK YOU, JUST LEAVE WERE NOT FORFEITING" like what? Seriously, how you approach the game is fine just don't force me to have that same attitude or otherwise be penalized for being logical enough to say "Ok, we lost this, they have a very clear insurmountable lead (more players, more items, 3 to 4 lvls ahead, multiple kills across the board, nearly all the objectives) and are just stalling to take advantage of us". Its not like I'm afraid to admit that my opponent was a better player obviously but can I please just move along.

All that being said, I just feel like Riot should adopt the dota system where if one person leaves the match you don't get penalized for wanting to leave it as well because of the glaringly obvious disadvantage you now have.

{quoted} I very much understand I'm an asshole to my teammates. It's something I really do want to fix and understand why my actions aren't ideal.

I hate when toxic players phrase their bad behavior as something beyond their control or how hard they're "trying" to fix something that is as simple as not opening a chat box in the game.

The answer is simple, quit and don't come back until you can act like an adult and control your raging emotions. It may be several years based on what I've read from you so far.

then quit the damn game and never comeback, simple as that. No one is going to miss a jackass that flames and just wants to make the game worse for EVERYONE still playing the game. Either play the game out and practice stuff or simply leave the game/afk well knowing that you are going to get punished for thinking the game revolves around you. Guess what? IT DOESN'T!

it really sucks when your team wont surrender and you've already given up mentally, but you queued for the game so it's your duty to suck it up and play to the best of your ability.

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

You cope by realizing that you have the opportunity to play against a fed opponent. If you don't want to even try that then try not playing pvp games. Go play a solo game instead because no one wants to play with you when you give up. Seriously just don't log in to lol if you have a give up mentality.

83sqojSQ6j1 votes

Firstly, Halo is pvp as well.

Second, you mean team games, LOL is a team game but it also involves a fair amount of strategy. So how is it giving up when you're just being logical enough to know that your team is unable to accumulate any strategic advantage considering the fact that no one is cooperating with each other or even helping the situation at all? In professional Chess bouts people usually forfeit when they've realized they have no other moves left that would benefit them towards a stalemate or even a win. It's the same concept here, why continue to beat yourself up when you have nothing to gain from it?

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

You're right, when one person has given up everyone on the team should as well. Forget that your 4-0 trynd has taken four of their turrets in the last 5 min, YOU are not having fun and feeding and your team just needs to /ff.

This isn't chess, if you stall you get more gold. The super minions give more gold which means if you hold out you can get to full build too and you will be on equal footing. If you don't give up then you can win, and you can work on playing against fed enemies, and if you can do that you will win more games and you will be able to turn around those games.

But who am i kidding, you just came on these boards to whine. Love that discussion between you and ValkyrieWitch below, really shows that you want constructive help /kappa.

83sqojSQ6j1 votes

Except enemy team is the one stalling out. And that 4-0 trynd has gotten 3 first tier and 1 second 35 mins into the game while they've already gotten 2 inhibs and a nexus turret at 23. Meanwhile they decimate the team as trynd is still split pushing and not even defending, at this point they're killing the other 3 team members while trynd still pushing. Annie support rages and starts dancing around baron pit for the rest of the game and Trynd still wont group or help team just keeps split pushing then running back as soon as he notices them coming. This goes on for 40 mins when they finally decide to quit going after kills and just push to win with super waves and a baron. Rest of the team sees them trying to baron, that trynd pings team to contest hive mind goes in behind him and they all die losing the game shortly after. a 46 minute game that could of ended at 23 when the score was already 4-27 leading up to the 30 minute mark considering we have a troll annie with an afk. Only people who wouldnt forfeit is trynd and the adc because he doesn't believe in forfeiting even when he keeps asking trynd to help and getting no response. I'd like to see how many fed enemies you've beaten when you have a troll and an afk.

See i can come up with scenarios too.

What is it with you anyways, Is your pride at stake in a normals game? You afraid the enemy team gonna call you chicken for pressing yes vote? Are you actually trying to get better when you see 3 teammates get blown up and you have to retreat to your fountain because they can dive you at nexus turret over and over?

Are Korean Pros quitters for surrendering matches they know they're getting stomped in and likely too lose even though they're in an actual team with the possibilty of coordinating a so called stall and comeback?

Sure I whine but you actually took the time to read the op and respond to it so what does that make you? An instigator? Did you review your comment? Was their anything constructive or insightful? Maybe you should stop trying to make me look like a jack ass and find ways to actually give contructive criticism, not just "Your a fucking quitter go play halo, league is a pvp derp derp derp"

It means that i want to play to get better, and so i see fed opponents as a challenge. I get sick of people who whine in game and beg for a surrender vote because they are too childish to continue.

The message of my comment is play, get better, and don't quit. That is constructive criticism. Did you review my comment?

i always hit no and try to drag out the game for that little bit of extra IP. i tell my teammates to do the same if they want to but if they dont then i say they can fill out a green rectangle and i wont have any objections.

mvargus1 votes

An extra 10-20 IP isn't worth 20 minutes of getting beat on in my opinion. I could get far more by ending the game, entering another and winning. If you really want IP badly play ARAMs they are the best way to get IP quickly.

well i just play the game out, i'm that guy that doesn't surrender. I mean it's not everyday i get to play vs a clear disadvantage (as in unfair). Just helps for practice and just because there's an afk doesn't mean i can't enjoy myself.

I think this thread should be finished. Its gone beyond anything helpful and is just turning into a flame fest.

Keep playing. Remember that RIOT can't check the circumstances of every game. Try to be a team player, stop flaming, and just be a better player. Only way to get better is learning how to play when ahead AND when behind.

And don't be that team that disrespects the opponents by not trying to finish things out quickly. ESPECIALLY when the enemy team is down several kills and has an AFK... thats just rude.
