Make URF a permanent game mode

Why? why won't riot do it? When URF comes around the queue times are under 3 seconds. People frickin' LOVE ultra rapid fire. Everyone I talked to in the 40+ games i played over the weekend, love it. I think this is why: The games are over quickly and the gameplay is fun and over-the-top. Because of this nobody really cares if you lose. How many losing games on reg 5v5 have someone that becomes toxic? I estimate 80-90% of the time at least one person starts blaming and ranting...and sometimes I'm one of them. If someone gets a couple kills ahead in a lane, the game can so quickly snowball and you spend the next 30 minutes playing a game you know you are going to lose, it stops being fun. And that brings out the worst in people. We're suppose to be playing this game for fun. In URF it isn't decided in the first couple kills. You can still turn it around, and even if you can't the game is over in 20 minutes. Its the only game mode I enjoy no matter the score. Perhaps it's a character flaw of mine, but seeing the chat in-game, I think this is just how most people are.

This weekend not a single game of all the games I played had a toxic player...not even one. I've been playing this game off and on since it was released and URF is the ONLY game mode where that consistently happens. People on both sides are jovial and silly and genuinely having a good time. I personally spent money on this game for the first time in 4 years to buy an IP boost and buy a couple champs just to play them on URF. I logged in this morning to play URF and after realizing it was gone, tried a game of 3v3 to see if maybe the faster pace of that mode could hold my attention. It didn't.

I'm a Gold player on my best days but truthfully, the game has become stale. The ideas and mechanics are great but we should have options for the PACE of the game. ARAM is a nice change-up but the real game of LoL is the complexity that comes with Summoner's Rift. The vast majority of games are played there and always will be, because its perfect in it's conception, but the execution is lacking for so many people.

I will likely log-in every once in a while to play LoL, but not often and Riot certainly won't get any more money from me until the next time URF comes around. I bet I would spend at least $10 a week on LoL if URF was a permanent gamemode.

TLTR: IF you love URF lets put pressure to make it permanent. It will make Riot a CRAP-TON of cash and a huge base of player very happy. Where is the downside? If you happen to be one of the people who don;t like URF, don't play it. As far as I can tell it is a win-win-win situation.

I know there have been post like before, but RIOT hasn't gotten the message and in fact created mode like Dominion, which is almost universally hated.

Yeah, I uninstalled lol because its too competetive and just wanted to have fun, ARAM is too bored, AR URF was perfect, but anyway, I'm not the mayor part

yup permanent urf mode is comming eventually but we can help to speed that process up. i like the idea of an balanced permanent urf mode. kinda a fast version of the classic league of legends

A permanent URF-Mode would be great!

It will always be their most popular game mode next to their professional scene. They keep urf as a temp so people always keep coming back for it. Urf is the only interesting part of league. Ever since urf came out originally it took over the servers. so they just took advantage of that and made it temporary just so they could make people come back for it.

It's not inherently "supposed" to be anything. It will be whatever Riot decides, and the ask here is that they change their mind on the mode - just like they've changed Dominion and ARAM to better suit, in their opinions, the players and games' needs.

I'm typically completely on board with what you're saying. Unlike some players, I understand the advantages for making some content temporary. If it was all out all of the time, players would lose interest in most of it because, let's face it, most of it tends to only be fun for a little while. It's often quick fun, vanity content. Furthermore, the population would get spread across more parts of the game, reducing the number of players participating in each part. (I'm also looking at MMOs like Guild Wars 2, which cycle through holiday and living world events, or add more zones.) For these types of game modes in LoL, once the novelty wears off, they become largely untouched. This is unhealthy for the game mode.

I'm with the OP, however, in thinking that URF is different. It's consistently popular and never seems to come close to getting boring to those who enjoy it. URF isn't Dominion. URF is ARAM. It's a game mode that is polished and enduringly fun enough to warrant a permanent slot.

Exactly! This game mode has staying power and people love it.

Except URF is the least polished of the three, and its sustainability is highly questionable. Regular URF gets stale tremendously quickly because some champs are stupidly strong (or at least popularly considered to be so). AR URF has similar issues with bad matchups as ARAM, but worse, due to how oppressive some ability spam can get. And that's despite URF already getting about as many champ balance changes as Dominion ever did.

You mean like ARAM? It was just a silly custom game mode, but then so many people started playing it that Riot made it a normal thing and it is still insanely popular today.

Yea, I'll have my birthday every day if it gives me something to enjoy.

Apathy was the prevailing opinion, not hatred. At most, you could claim Dominion inspired hatred. Not towards the game mode itself, but towards Riot for squandering the mode's potential.

It's amusing that you praise URF's faster pacing and comeback potential yet dislike Dominion. Dom offered both of those, plus less oppressively bad matchups.

Dominion is boring. Urf is fun because of the 80% CD and unlimited mana. When playing dominion you basically have to think about all the same things as summoner rift. To me URF Dominion would be fun or Aram. URF is fun not because of the map or objective its fun because its FAST paced.

Minarde1 votes

Are you sure you meant "fast paced" rather than "simpler"? Dominion was faster-paced than URF (at least in terms of game length). However, as you mentioned, Dom was also typically more involved than URF.

Of course, I'm not saying that being simple is bad. It's just a different perspective and appeal.

Unbeatabledeath3 votes

80% CD in on everything in URF. Not sure what your definition of face paced is but to me this is face paced. You have to react faster and think faster because of the fast spells. A shorter game length does not mean fast paced.

Minarde1 votes

Lower cooldowns means your fights are fast-paced, but shorter game length means your games are fast-paced. Regardless of how fast your spell-slinging is, URF's game pacing is still gated by SR's conventions. Still have to wait for minions, and structures still have to be whittled down.

Think of the difference like this. Imagine if structures' and monsters' defensive stats were tripled in URF. Cooldowns are still short, so fights are still fast-paced. However, the match itself would feel much slower, since there's a lot less you can accomplish after winning a teamfight.

But gold/mn are up

I really do not get why URF is not a permanent game mode. Its so much better than dominions. Even games that i lose on URF I dont feel as frustrated etc and I am someone who hates losing. Its a quick paced game and just FUN. Riot need to atleast try to make it available for 1 month and see how it goes. As far as people talking about being bored that is incorrect. LOL has been out for years and we play the same game over and over again. Yeah we do get bored of it but we keep coming back to play more. Anyone who says other wise shouldn't be in this thread,

I would like to pay extra $10-$20 a week/month for just playing URF

I got Nidalee and duo laned with a Soraka. Within 10 minutes the enemy lane (Olaf/Yasuo) was typing hate speech at me.

I didn't even want to play URF but my friends invited me. I'd be glad to never see the mode again.

Because then thered be increased queue times for ranked

No.

Also, I don't know why you think Riot is going to make "a crap-ton of cash" off of a free gamemode in a free game. I don't think you know how money works.

Queen of Hearts1 votes

Because people use RP to get skin boosts.

Decep871 votes

if URF was a full game mode, i would play this game ALOT more and would spend more money on the game just to get skins for champions, they could also add like random purchases for URF for example, a box of % chance to get a champion in URF, you active it go play urf and have a higher chance of getting them...

Arma is dead..... can we replace it with urf or maybe even say a ARMA with 50% of urfs stuff?

Make it permanent

FACKMEEEEEEEE1 votes

I couldn't agree more with this. It doesn't hurt anybody to just add it to the rest of the permanent game modes, and if you don't like it or the people who play it, then just don't play it, it's that simple. I think iI'm speaking for quite a lot of people when I say that adding URF to the permanent game modes would change the whole understanding of the community and maybe the game itself.
