I am so confused.. I got into promos for Gold 5 for the second time today and was granted a free win. I won the next, so my series was 2-0. Then I lost 2, and it said I was unsuccessful in completing my series????

Probably dodging. Dodging a match in your promos is a loss. You'll also lose your Promo Helper wins doing that.
