Ranked Doesn't Make Sense

Alright so i have been playing league for over a year. Recently i just placed in bronze three after my 10 placement games. To me this doesn't make any sense. If i played poorly or lost many of the games i could understand. I won 8 of my 10 games and played fairly well in all of them. Last season i was in silver 4, not playing too much ranked and realizing this season would be my season to climb. After destroying in my placement games and being placed in bronze three, i was confused. My good friend who also was in silver last season, played his ten games, winning only three of the ten. To me this does not make sense. If i could just get some clarification or something to make me feel a little better about this topic let me know please. Love you riot <3

It just doesn't make any sense at all to me and its quite frustrating. i know I'm better then 90% of the players I'm being matched with and i won 80% of my games. bronze 3? why does it make any sense to be dropped an entire league just because riot says so. last season i won only 4 of my games and was put into silver 4, i no doubtless increased my skill over the year and know i could be in at least gold. but this is kind of ridiculous

its not about the players that are good enough, they figure they'll make it back to where they belong. its about hig elo players, and bad players stewing in the T5 of a division needing to be moved, but if they target them, ppl will bitch, so they do it to everyone so no one feels targeted.

Sachabot2 votes

The system drops you at least one full division during a hard reset. That's just how it is. Everyone goes through it.

Arcane Azmadi2 votes

In other words, the system is retarded.

Sachabot1 votes

Why? You don't like it so it must be wrong? The system forces people to earn their rank rewards every season instead of just sitting on a rank until the end of time. The people who should actually be that rank seem to have no problem climbing back up, so I don't see a reason to complain.

Wasted effort. I'm 7 games into my placements so far (so sue me, I don't play more than 1-2 games per day) and I've won all 7 of them so far. But even if I win the last 3 as well, it's nothing more than 10 games of wasted effort. I'm going to Bronze V. I know this. It's an inescapable fact. I MIGHT get Bronze IV instead if I do get a perfect 10-game streak, but it's not likely. So it's actually WORSE if I win all 10, because then I'll have had a perfect 10-game win streak... that means absolutely jack-shit nothing. I would have been better off feeding all 10- makes not once ounce of fucking difference to the outcome, but the games would have been over quicker and with less stress.

Well with that attitude no wonder. I mean, if it's a waste then why do you bother? It's not like you might want or need a decent MMR so you don't get paired with total dipshits so you can actually climb if you would like. That's really my takeaway from three seasons of placements: I want a decent record so my team doesn't suck all the time for the next ten months.

Arcane Azmadi1 votes

Why do I bother? Because I don't have any fucking choice. If I could, I would have just skipped my placements and taken a position at the bottom of Bronze V as soon as the new season had started; if I had I'd already be in Bronze IV (7 straight wins). Hell, if I had my choice I wouldn't be playing ranked at all- I never bothered with it in the past, preferring to stick to the less-stressful Normal Draft queue where I could play more freely (as well as play around with the F2P champs), until Riot OCE (bunch of useless slackers) decided maintaining Draft Normal queue was too much like hard work and disabled it. Blind Pick sucks (LoL really is only any good in draft mode, both from a tactical standpoint and for avoiding arguments about who typed "mid" fastest) so it's Ranked or nothing for me, and I don't want to choose "nothing" just yet.

I will freely admit that I don't really understand how MMR works (my general understanding is that "it doesn't"). I spent all of last season losing more LP for a loss than I gained for a win, even when my team was lower ranked on average than the opponents we just lost to, and I had more than my share of dipshits anyway. If you could explain to me how winning 10 placement games and getting dumped into Bronze V gets me better teammates than losing 10 placement games and getting dumped into Bronze V I would actually be genuinely grateful. Are there different gradients of zero down at the bottom or something?

Placements are bullshit and a complete waste of time. Riot shouldn't even force us to do them since they make no fucking difference. But whatever, it's Riot.

you are generally placed lower then your ranking last season, it's part of a seasonal reset for everybody. gotta learn to accept that. I was in silver 5 last season so after my placements, I expect to be seeing you in bronze 3.

Arcane Azmadi1 votes

...why?

Seriously, why? Why does there have to be a degree of "we're going to waste THIS much of your effort because we feel like it" to placements? Why can you win 10/10 of the games that are supposed to determine your position and STILL go backwards? What do you have to do to not be penalised (and this cannot conceivably be anything BUT a penalty), win 12 out of 10 games? Why do we "gotta learn to accept that" other than "because Riot own the game and can do whatever the fuck they like to us"? What the hell kind of "placement" is that?! What's even the friggin' POINT?!

Seriously, I want a straight answer: WHY?!

its a gate for higher elo's so we dont have people at such high mmr that people cant catch and overtake them. it opens competitiveness.

Arcane Azmadi2 votes

So basically it punishes 90% of the LoL playerbase (all of silver and bronze) for the sake of the 10%.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

LF Annie1 votes

remind me when the game wasn't balanced around the highest elo's of play?

also, the reset is healthy for all levels of play because it drops people stewing in the t5 of their bracket, not dropping, but not good enough ton be there.

Arcane Azmadi1 votes

Except all the retards who ended the season in Bronze V because they're genuinely so fucking awful at the game they shouldn't be allowed to play ranked at all, or are just intentional trolls. They can't drop any lower, so all the middle-skill Bronzes and all the Silvers now get cast back into the depths of the pit to give the scum more victims to drag down again.

The two reasons I can think of is, 1). ranked rewards. don't you think it would be absurd if you were gold in season 1 but you barely played a ranked game since then and you get ranked rewards every year? hearthstone does this too. after each season (1 month) your rank goes down so you have to earn the rewards again. 2). big changes. Huge changes come with every preseason and some players work better in some patches than others. take me for example. I climbed so fast with zilean when his q was a point and click during season 3, but i could barely compete after they made it a skill shot. if we take the hearthstone example, the most prominent deck changes with each new set because each set introduces a whole host of changes.

RexZor1 votes

Drops you a full division after reset.

Pawn of hearts1 votes

well they probably want people to spent time in the game, and that is the climbing in rank. just think of it this way; why would they want you to be place with decent player and climb the ladder in a single week?

I have been playing league for over 5 years since the beta in October 2009. Every new season is worse, and I place lower and lower every year. Currently Bronze 1, the highest I have ever been was Gold 4. Last season placed Silver 5, and Silver 3 before that, Silver 1 both seasons prior. Whats the fucking point.

I keep getting fucked over here. I have only 5 wins and 17 losses being in Bronze 2 (after getting fucked on my placements due to the same reason that i will state) due to the most uncooperative teammates you can imagine. Of all those losses 15 of them were due to a refusal to communicate properly and refusal to help other teammates out.

I am literally about to say fuck ranked because I now cant get a win no matter what because of all the people that refuse to play as a team.
