AP top a new thing?

Is AP mage both mid and top the new thing?

Are top champs too hard to play? Is top no fun? What are we going to do with all the fighter champs?

It's not a new thing, mages are better than bruisers

You'd be much better off running someone like Vlad or Rumble than Jax or Darius

champs like:

Darius Renekton Riven Irelia

make playing top lane unfun. That's why I play ranged up top.

It's not new, but I wouldn't recommend it. A dual AP comp can be countered by a hand full of champs and strategies, which are good against AP. Take Say Galio, who scale of MR. Maybe Veigar, but that's a stretch.

AP toplaners have been popular in the LCS, as AD midlaners like Jayce and Varus became popular.

That stratagy was used in season 1's championship. So no.

Are top champs too hard to play?

They run a wide gambit in difficulty. Top-lane champions as a whole are just average in this regard.

It is worth noting mechanical difficulty isn't the only difficulty though: someone like Olaf can be Donkey-Kong levels of difficult to use properly due to the amount of foresight, planning, and positioning having no gap-closers on a very telegraphed kit requires. Even with his combo being adequately performed via smashing your head on the keyboard, he's still a difficult champion to play well. The same goes for Darius.

It's also worth noting champions like Lee Sin that are mechanically demanding tend to suffer by being brain-dead champions in the Donkey-Kog/Asteroids sense by just having so many tools and answers to problems you don't have to utilize foresight, planning, or positioning very much. You hit me with a barrel? I'll just shield and leap to the top level!

A bit of a generalization: but difficulty is more a mix of many facets than the result of 1 definitive quality.

Is top no fun?

If you're someone that likes doing lone-wolf, self-sufficent things, and proving your the strongest by beating someone in a straight 1v1: Yes, it's reasonably fun.

What are we going to do with all the fighter champs?

Many of those can also jungle.

Beyond that, mages and assassins share mid lane. Supports and tanks share the support position. Jungle has never really been ruled by any particular archetype.

There's no reason mages and fighters can't share top lane.

You can play anything in any lane, but going melee vs ranged is always hard, thats why u rarely see fighters botlane.

IDK if its a thing, but it is a strategy that is used.

It allows for one of the laners (top or mid) to carry item 3001 , which gives a powerspike (depending on how early you get it)

A lot of useful AP items also provide health item 3116 item 3151 item 3027

And also yes: Vladimir Swain Ekko Lissandra

Tend to be easier to learn then :

Gnar Hecarim Olaf Irelia

Top is kind of the kitchen sink of lanes, you can really throw anything up there and see if it works.

But really, Irelia laughs all the way home at AP mages top. Actually a lot of tanks also have no problems with AP tops.

WIth an AD mid is pretty much necessary, unless you go with an AP jungler.
