Locking-in (New Champ Select)

I do like the new champion selection but the locking in has to go. Happened a few times, twice in ranked, where I forgot to lock in because I was doing some masteries or selecting runes. If you select a champion you shouldn't be kicked out for not locking in your champ.

I played a game (ranked) and was last pick (support) and was looking at good counters. I take Morgana and start looking at my runes for which one to choose then masteries. I don't pay attention and I get kicked with 5 min delay... Ok not so bad. I play a game afterwards, no issues. I get back in champion select where I'm first pick, I look at my options and decide to take a champ, start looking at my runes/masteries and forgot the new lock in... Now I'm stuck with a 30 min wait time.

I mean I can understand if someone's doesn't ban, but if someone's is actively there and has chosen a champ and is doing stuff like runes/masteries or looking at the other players stats, there shouldn't be a queue dodge if you haven't locked that champion. We are there. We're not AFK, we had to choose that champion. I don't mind a kick if someone didn't select a champ or a ban. I can't say how many games it had happened to me too where someone just forgets to lock in and I'm back in the queue and I'm probably not alone on that.

TL:DR New champion select is nice but the kick on not locking-in has to go.

It's a (Albeit not intentionally, I'm sure) completely toxic concept. I'm now on a 30 minute timer because I accidentally did not lock in twice last night. And today I was discussing priority picking with teammates to decide the game's final ban and to see if our first pick could swap Mundo to our top laner. I was a millisecond too late in "Locking In" the ban for Soraka, even though she was hovered the whole time.

This isn't a game where every single player goes in to a game saying "I'm going to play THIS champion no matter what!" and has a pocketbook saying their exact 3 bans, etc. Not to mention bans have to be discussed between every team because of picks. I love the fact that you get to choose your two favorite roles and play one of them no matter what. But the whole "select one champion you want to play" is extremely narrow minded from a communication standpoint and, as a result, toxic to versatility and teamwork.

I play every ADC (Except Kindred) and so I completely base my picks on team comps, lane matchups, early/late game power spikes, etc.

This locking in thing needs to be completely removed. And if Riot's excuse is that you can just hover who you want to play before bans so communication isn't necessary, that's horrid. And since my little ban incident a few minutes ago was within 24 hours of last night, I'm on another 30 minute wait timer.

GG Rito, please patch.

I agree, the new champion select needs to remove the lock-in-or-get-kicked feature. If you're hovering between 2 different champs, and can't decide which one, then switch to a different one at the last second, you'll get kicked since you won't have enough time to lock in. The same applies to the scenarios mentioned above, getting kicked while trying to set up your mastery page is very annoying. I don't see the logic in what Riot has decided to do here. I really hope they remove this.

Is this still up to discussion?

I voted for "Yes, remove it". Just happened. I picked a champ, but forgot to lock in. This is quite outrageous.

Still going on strong. What a worthless corporation. Whomever is in PR and reading this. You're failing your community.
