Team captain in ranked.

  • Do you think it would be possible a standardized shotcaller role in ranked. Like support always calls the shots or something like that because i just lost a ranked game because everyone decided to listen to the 3/10/2 Tristana over the 8/4/14 Trundle . I know it would be a hard decision to make but i'm kinda tired of losing games because everyone thinks they are team captain.

That's more a problem with people being derpy when it comes to charisma and leadership. Actually wanting to listen to and fallow someone is a completely unrelated to how good their decision making is.

That said - your solution doesn't really solve any problems. The lane position shot-callers fullfill from team to team is pretty diverse at the pro level. And I'd imagine good shot-callers don't correlate with any specific lane. Sometimes it's the top-lanner, sometimes it's the jungler, sometimes it's the mid-lanner.

Trying to force people to listen to a particular individual, especially in a game, seems pretty much impossible to me as well. I really don't think people would - and it could also lead to a lot of people that are 100% full of themselves going into that particular roll.

If you want to be a shot-caller, or a solid shot-caller, put together a 5-man premade.

First, you shouldn't be listening to a 3/10 Trist, as she probably doesn't know what she's doing. Second, if Trundle was doing good and no one else aside from the Trist was shot calling, everyone should have listened to Trundle. You probably lost because there were two shot callers.

I'm sorry, but this is bad logic. KDA does not, I repeat, does -not- reflect one's ability to make solid decisions when it comes to taking objectives and making plays.

The fact that the adc in general was trying to call the shots in general should be a red flag. Not the fact that he was 3/10. Trist coulda been 10/3 for all I care, and it still woulda been bad for trist to be calling the shots.

That being said, if trist was the only one calling shots, that is a heck of a lot better than no one calling shots. (remember that red flag?) if the adc feels the need to call the shots, then you know you've got problems with your teammates(this is assuming no one else is trying to call the shots, if someone else is, then you've just got a pain in the butt for an adc)

Now, if you want a shot caller, the 3 best roles is either: mid lane, support, or jungle. Why? because they have the most map awarenes/presence. Jungler should have both awareness and presence. Support should have awareness, and mid lane should have presence.

(part 2: cuz riot has a stupid character limit)

Again, any shot caller is better than no shot caller, but those 3 lanes are your best bet at it. Top lane is usually too far removed from the rest of the team to contribute meaningful decisions, and the adc exists to do dmg, he is the secret weapon you need to aim properly, not let it aim itself.

Now, please, do not let a player's kda impact you on his ability to call shots. How many times has Link gone 0/2 or 0/4 before his team finally made a comeback? They still listen to him regardless of his kda. So why is it so important that we listen to the guy on our team that is 20/1? that just means he's been stealing all the kills, not making good calls on when to take towers and contest dragon.

Shot calling is more than merely saying, "let's team fight mid guys! I'll engage!"

No no no no no! A good shot caller would say something like this:

SC: guys, drag is up in 30 SC: nasus, you push top, we'll sweep drag tele in if the enemy engages on us.

SC: gj guys! we got drag, let's rotate bot and take a tower now!

See? it doesn't matter if the shot caller is 3/5, 1/4, 4/1 or 3/10, that was still a solid call (assuming you knew where most of the enemy was at the time)

Solo q has become hard to play not because we have become worse at the game, but because everyone is trying to carry too hard. If you want to win, you need to realize who is carrying, who is making the calls, and who is supporting. And let's face it, you can't always carry. And the guy that is carrying isn't always great at making calls. We need to learn to be more cooperative and less. "the only way I'll win is if I carry myself" and more "okay, I'm not doin so hot, but this guy is doin great, lets rally around him and try to take objectives. I'll do my best to keep him alive in fights"

That is a professional team. This is solo queue, where people don't know each other, and generally don't VC with each other. You cannot expect solo queue to be liked LCS level (that is what I'm getting from that comparrison).

Yes, I agree that the shot caller does not need to have all the kills. No, I will not listen to someone who has blatantly fed. Let everyone do their role, and someone will probably take charge and shotcall (if they're doing a good job is a different story), and if there are more than persons shotcalling, someone has to realize his ego is gonna screw them over, and even if he knows his choices are better, listen to the other guy. A team divided is probably going to lose.

If you're 3/10, you're obviously doing something wrong. I know KDA does not mean anything, but when you're clearly not doing good, I don't think I'd trust you to make decisions for the team. Generally, you're doing something wrong if you're going 1 for 3 in a ranked game (you probably should have played that champion before).

I do agree, however, it should be the mid/jungle/support, but they won't always do that. And more often then not, in low elo, everyone's map awareness is trash. You know that a certain individual doesn't have good map awareness when the enemy jungler walks right over a ward and they don't notice it, or react to pings. Even if they do have map awareness, the jungle/support/mid won't always shotcall anyway.

To me, you yourself must do the shotcalling, or at least act together as a team.

but see, therein lies the problem, ppl are too quick to jump into the position of shot calling. and players are too unwilling to listen to advice objectively. If you want to win, you need to evaluate all information equally regardless of the source. Often times the guy that is 3/10 is frustrated with something just as much as the guy that is 1/2. If both players were to make the same exact shot call in the same exact situation, why does it matter if one is 3/10 and the other is 1/2? They made the same observation and call, so why should we treat the former as drivel from an incompetent player and only marginally consider as a decent idea from the latter?

Also, if a player is 10/2 that's great, but don't always trust them to make the best calls. Often times, they get drunk on their own success and bite off more than their team can handle and end up throwing.

Playing the game seflishly leads to a crap ton of stress. I know from experience. I bought into the whole "if I wanna win, I have to carry" mentality, and it has ruined league for me. I get over stressed and get ragy so much faster now than ever before.

also, kda is not a good indicator of player skill. There are far too many variables in this game for it to be so. For example, I played a game as ezreal with a thresh support once. I ended up going 2/6 in the first 20 or 30 min or so. My thresh went like 1/2 or something. You'd say I was bad ez, no? But does it help if I said that during that match, my thresh did absolutely nothing in lane? He never auto attacked, he rarely ever landed a hook(I could count the times he threw it on one hand) and overall, had no presence in lane. All while hiding behind me, afraid of being harassed by the enemy. It felt like it was a 2v1 lane for me. I was struggling just to keep up in farm against the enemy trist. (I did manage to keep up in farm till mid game and the enemy spiraled out of control)

Also, in that example, 2 of my deaths were due to the enemy rengar jungler coming bot for a gank. Both times, rengar tower dived me and scored a double kill. Both times I had full hp, but 3v1 is not something I can fight. (I say 3v1 because thresh missed his spells and did very little) After that, I was behind in exp and gold, and trist could just engage whenever she pleased for free kills.

Was I feeding intentionally? No. Would most league players listen to me if I tried to call the shots? No. (although, since I was adc that game, I shouldn't be shot calling anyway, but still) Do you see my point?

I understand and respect your point/opinion, but I simply will not follow a random stranger who is doing bad. If he lost his lane, and is feeding hard, he's not playing right. The jungler camped his lane? Ward and don't push. He was countered? Play safe and don't fight. Jungler got invaded? Don't go rage mode and make stupid choices. There is really no reason he should be feeding, (with the possible exception of bot) unless he made a mistake. And when he makes mistakes enough to be considered feeding, I simply will not follow that player. If I knew them and trusted their judgement, it would be a different story, but I don't; it's solo queue.

I trust my own judgement enough to know that I am making a decent choice or at least not a bad one. But I will trust another player's judgement if I see that they are doing good, but not solely based on KDA. I look at my teammates often enough to see what they're doing, how they're playing. For me, KDA is a factor, but not the only one.

If the player has a good KDA, chances are he's making good decisions and being rewarded for it.
