I could really use some advice

I really want to start playing ranks a lot more but I'm confused on what to do in low elo and who to play. Iv been playing normals with a group of friends for quite a while and we can communicate and work as a team and win a lot. However since in ranks I can't play with a full group of 5 so the synergy and communication is not existent. I tried to play champs with really strong team fight but it feels very hit and miss on if they rest of my team with follow up or just not react correctly. So I'v tried to play champs that just win on their own but then my team keeps trying to 4v5 when I'm shoving down top so I have to back. It seems to me low elo puts way to much emphasis on team fights but no one really knows how to peel correctly and play together.

So what should I be focusing on and what champions fit that focus. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Well, you really can play Ranked 5's. You create a 5v5 team from your profile in the tab on top next to your name, and once you do (or join one someone else made) the Ranked Teams option will show up to queue for.

You can change out people in your team as often as you want until you finish your 10 placement matches, then there is a limit I think (read about it here.

The problem is all my friends are switching to GTA FOR THE PC, and it feels like all the fuss is for Solo/Duo Que

Split pushing is a strategy that requires some teamwork, requiring your team to keep them interested enough, but not actually engaging unless it is favorable. I feel it might require too much skill at lower levels. For me I just tried to pick OP or overpowering late game champions since that is my preferred playstyle. In a lot of games I feel the other team would let you farm to win late game and then you can win just because you outscale.

I agree with this idea of going for late game solo carry champions (Warwick Udyr Nasus), especially since in Solo Queue, teams have trouble closing out games. Split pushing champions can be very effective in solo queue so if you can tell your team to only fight when you can back them up (Shen Singed Jax). If you are looking to help your team make correct choices on when to engage or how to react correctly, I would recommend going for a champion that is great at engage or disengage so you can decide the fights. Examples: Gragas Malphite Sejuani Maokai as they excel in providing engage potential for your team. All of them can be excellent tanks and have gap closers and AOE abilities that provide great damage and secondary effects. (bonus if you can play Gnar as he is also a strong engage with a definite "this is the time to go in team").

I do realize that these are all meta top or jungle champions. You can fit some of these roles with Mid champs (Zed split push: Cassiopeia late game HyperCarry: Oriana Teamfight pressence). ADC's and Supports are usually not splitting. And ADC's can only carry with a team to support them. Though supports can be hard engages Leona . And you can pick late game ADCs Jinx.

Hope this helps. I didn't cover snowballing dependent champions as it is a style I don't play often, but you can look to take early game advantages and overpower your opponents before the game goes late (as this is when snowball champions will fall off). If you are confident in your ability to make picks and snowball to win the game and make the enemies surrender at 20 minutes, consider Riven LeeSin Katarina Draven.

I have allways loved playing Gnar, I might try and pick him back up. However its not every game that I can go Top, so I was looking for 1 or 2 champs that can play Top,Mid,Jungle.

Split push in low elo. Just keep pushing a lane even if your team asks you to come help. Keep pushing.
