I mean seriously, he will torture a single victim for decades..... DECADES! Not days, but freaking decades, to me the only reason he's not an assassin is because of Eve, and that they don't have a Shadow Isle support, even though Maokai could fit the description with his ult and good cc and a ward for an ability. But Noooo, they can't make THRESH THE CHAIN WARDEN AND TORTURER AN ASSASSIN (Anger) Who honestly knows why?
RiotMeddler9 votesThresh is a support rather than an assassin because we wanted to broaden the range of themes available to support champions and didn't see any reason evil and sadistic couldn't be paired with really high baseline utility. We want each position and class to have a range of different tones, appearances, playstyles etc available to it. Historically champions played as support have skewed pretty heavily towards certain characteristics though, the 'good' protective type especially (Taric, Soraka, Sona, Lulu, Janna for example). Leona was designed to open up that support space somewhat by offering an aggressive, diving support. Thresh was then designed to offer a different type of aggressive support and a darker, evil theme as well.

Isn't it TORTURE when he lands that hook?
Isn't it TORTURE when he causes that kill to slip away with a sliver of health with his lantern?
Isn't it TORTURE when you get slowed and damaged from that ult only to hit another wall of it?
His playstyle makes his opponent live through hell trying to get that kill on his low hp adc only for them to slip away time and time again, and when you try to run, the hook always finds you.
He causes you to go through a slow, agonizing death, both in the lore and in the game.
And im not even gonna go into the horror that is AD Thresh.
