Is something actively wrong with solo q matchmaking?

Got tired of playing normals on this account since leveling is just so exhausting for me lately so I went on a different account to play one ranked game. Anything about that is irrelevant, I am a silver player and I don't stomp in like any of my games. I have no money to buy accounts so these were manually leveled and I have different champ pools on both which is why I switched.

I haven't played in a while and I got 29 LP for this win so I thought I had pretty high MMR. But when I went on op.gg it said it was normal so I checked the match summary. What's going on here? Why are there two Gold 5 players playing with people 3-5 tiers below them? One of them, my Diana, has Gold 3 MMR at the time of this post, making her effectively 7 tiers above me. Are there not enough players at gold level for these two to be matched into? Because if that's the case then I doubt I can play this game anymore. I've only kept it installed for ranked and only played normals with the intent of practicing champs/roles since they're not really enjoyable to play at all (one sided, somehow more toxic than ranked). If this is a regular occurrence then I really do give up on League in its entirety.
