High Elo ASol Feedback
Hello friends. I think the community seems to be about 30:70 approve to disapprove ratio on the rework. Let me explain why I believe this rework is a failure in the grand scheme for everyone both in high and low elo.
Currently ranked 4th NA ASol on OP.gg, Currently ranked 9th NA ASol on League of Graphs
Before we start, I want to preface this by saying for the past few months, I have played Aurelion Sol with an Electrocute Sorcs ROA Morello Rabadons 1 Shot Build. So this burst mage playstyle is not too foreign. Nonetheless, read on.

Aurelion Sol was a niche pick. He always had a different playstyle, and was unique in that he offered something other champions did not. Now, with all of his damage shifting to short, bursty all-ins, rather than long extended fights, he is no different from any other burst mage (ie Syndra, Ahri, Velkoz)
-
His power has moved to the midgame and late game. "Wow, that doesn't sound too bad though..." you might say. And sure. A buff to other parts of the game are important. But the average game time in all divisions is less than 30 minutes. By the time you start to feel relevant, the game is more than half way done.

The issue with this is that ASol is picked for his early game. A roam style champion is inherently better in the early game, when their roams impact the map through a threat of a gank or skirmish. If ASol does not snowball the map, he does not do anything in other parts of the game. This has always been the case with this champ. But now that he can't roam as easily, and has weaker early game power, he is more than likely to be less useful in the later stages where Riot decided to move his power to.
-
His hard matchups are now even harder. Champs like Ekko and Yasuo and Kassadin could be punished in the early game because of the extended duration of his W. While they only have a few abilties with cooldowns, ASol had a constant W + Cpot ticking trade back. Now that his W automatically closes after 3 seconds, he can't trade at all. If his W is on cooldown, from say... trying to push the wave, he's screwed. Assassins jump him, and he has to wait 8 whole seconds before he can do damage... 8 seconds. Absolutely insane that he can't trade back in lane. He has to either save W for trades, or W for pushing. He can't do both.

There is no point to pick him over many of the other mid laners. You want push? Pick Talon, Rumble, Ahri, Qiyana. You want damage? Pick Talon, Ahri, Syndra, Qiyana, Zed, Leblanc, Zoe, Sylas. You want AOE? Pick Talon, Rumble, Taliyah, Syndra, Ziggs, Velkoz. You want roaming through mobility? Pick Taliyah, Zed, Qiyana, Ekko. He does everything these champs do... but worse. There is a midlaner that excels at what ASol does, but better. He is outclassed in every aspect that you would want in a reliable standard midlaner.
I love Aurelion Sol. I have over 800k points on him, and have one tricked him for almost 2 years. To see these changes made with such reckless abandon make me sad. Not only that my favorite champion is now a shell of his former self. But also because it seems that Riot as a company does not truly care about player feedback. I hope that with enough voices, we might get a revert, but in the meantime, I'll be playing other champs that do his job better, like Rumble and Taliyah. I hope this writeup wasn't too hard to follow. I just feel like as a player who really really really understands ASol in high elo, I should give my input on the matter. Let me know what you all think, and I can try to maybe elaborate more on parts that might be confusing.
Sincerely,
A Sad Ex-ASol One Trick
