what happened to the actual levels in the doombots gauntlet?

the best part of the game mode was starting at a low level and slowly grinding your way up to level 100 without having to jump from the babby mode straight to get-stomped-100, why were these taken away?

In all seriousness no idea. But I never played on anything less than level 100 last year. :/
