Why does nobody play Anivia?
I don't understand how seemingly nobody understands her outplay and damage potential.

Because she's a stupid champion where you literally walk up to wave and press R and sit there to collect 6 cs with zero input or skill required. She's uninteractive, slow, and boring.

Because meta is basically a giant follow-the-leader circlejerk where the leader is following everyone else.

Since when are immobile mages outside of 
popular? It's an assassin/lethality meta right now, nobody is gonna play Anivia.
Who is going to play that boring,slow,ugly looking champ ?
I think people forget that her kit has a lot of tools that counter many meta picks such as hard cc and an egg, many assassins and burst mages have nothing to kill her egg after they proc it because they lack any sustain damage, melee champs often have gap closers but not escapes (in most cases) therefore they can usually be stunned easily and be stuck in her ultimate. Not to mention her wall and aoe stun/slow can help her escape ganks.
