I think the absolute best advice is to communicate well with your ADC. If you go in and he doesn't immediately follow, at best you will lose the trade.
Communication is key when playing support. I had an ADC that would not communicate - I would ping to go in and she would Recall at full health leaving me 1v2 saying she needed an item before engaging. That was a tough game and I died quite a few times in early trades. But I stuck with it and set up kill after kill for her and eventually we won lane and game.
thank u that actually makes sense. I was doing a game with a friend and we were working very well together but when I vsed with an unknown player I failed and fed the enemy
I play her tanky support with as many active shields as my fingers can handle. I start with the Relic Shield and try to focus on CSing cannon minions only. Relic shield lets you assassinate the minion and give the same amount of gold to the nearest allied champ.
Then I build Locket of the Iron Solari and finish Face of the Mountain (two activated shields!). I almost always get Sunfire Cape since you're a melee fighter.
I start with Eclipse for the bonus armor and magic resistance and aoe damage. Then I wade into the minion wave and try to hit the adc with the burst. Since it's aoe, it doesn't aggro the minions. At level 2, I take Shield of Dawn. Now I can walk up and stun the enemy adc when needed. Someone else might tell you to take Zenith Blade instead. This can work, but it also makes you want to use Zenith Blade, and at level 2 with only the Relic Shield, you'll die pretty fast 2v1. I take Zenith Blade at level 3 and then max Eclipse. Once Eclipse is maxed, I max Zenith Blade for the cooldown and then Shield of Dawn. I may also alternate these to level them together, taking my ult at the appropriate levels.
In a fight, you want to activate Eclipse, then Shield of Dawn (when not attacking minions), and then immediately grab an enemy champ with Zenith Blade. This will ensure a stun, and follow-up from Eclipse. Make sure you ping first so your ADC knows to attack with you or you might get killed.
Depending on matchup (AD or AP) I'm going to take Randuin's Omen and Thornmail or Spirit Visage and Banshee's Veil. Always onmy mind is HP, Armor, Magic Resist. That's all I care about because it is my job to go into the middle of a fight and set up kills with my stun. I take Mercury Treads because the enemy support usually deals magic damage and has snares of some sort. Treads give you MR and Tenacity which reduces CC duration. This keeps you mobile, which is extremely important for a melee fighter.
Think ahead. After you pull yourself in with Zenith Blade, most enemies will reposition toward their turret - set your Solar Flare ahead between them and their turret and you'll hit 80% of the time for stun.
Try to back off early and let your ADC get the kills early game. Late game Leona becomes very bursty between Eclipse and Solar Flare so you end up accidentally taking a lot of kills just trying to stun them. Remember that your job is to protect your adc and set up kills. Dive hard when ready and be prepared to throw up Locket of the Iron Solari and/or target your ADC with Face of the Mountain. Incidentally, this is why I build lots of bonus HP on Leona - the shield from Face of the Mountain scales off of it.

This is wrong. I hate to say that outright, but Eclipse is almost always Level 3 skill.
Start with your Q: Here is why. Leona's Q is an Auto Attack Reset skill; meaning that you can Auto, Q, Auto very quickly. Now why would anyone want to do this? Simple. it gives you 3 autos in the span of what normally takes 2. And how many hit points to wards have? 3. if you are fast enough with leona, you can instantly kill a ward as soon as it is placed. This can be massive bot lane early, if you can remove the 1/3 of the enemy wards, well I don't need to tell you how good that is.
The best way to do the above is to be sitting in the bottom bush on your side, wait for their support to ward it, auto q auto. Ward gone.
Secondly. You almost always want your E second. Again why would you want E second? It gives you two stuns at level 2, and if you can beat the enemy bot lane to level 2, you are INSANELY more powerful than they are. The window is short, but if you land your Zenith at level 2 while they are level 1. Its almost always a flash or a kill.
After that, Max W (eclipse).
I cannot think of an instance where I would want W first. You shouldn't need the extra armor / mr that early.
A tip I can give you is a bit situational, but I watch people fuck it up over and over.
If you are playing against a Blitz / Thresh / Morgana to some degree, if they land their hook / binding on your adc. Don't jump on top of them.
Go for their ADC. Lock them down. Odds are you will prevent more damage by locking up their ADC, than by piling on their support and trying to turn it into a kill.
The last thing I can leave you with is this: Remember that your job can change drastically in the course of a game. Sometimes you need to protect your fed player, other times you need to flash ult their carry. Sometimes you have to throw yourself into a bad position to lock up their jungler, so they cannot smite baron.
I lied, two more things. I haven't seen this done a lot, but I've done it handful of times and it works very well.
ALWAYS tank your jungler's buff at the start of the game. You'll take a lot less damage than them, and it will give them a bit more sustain.
(This is super situational) If the enemy team has a blitz, and you think they are going to cheese steal the jungle buff at level 1. Stand in front of it and take the grab. As Leona you're probably not going to die; burn flash if you have to. But this just completely destroys their strategy, sets their jungler behind, and keeps your jungler where he should be. Every time i've done this, the enemy blitz gets FURIOUS. Even if you burn flash, you have two very safe choices in terms of where to flash, and it will probably be up again by the time the enemy jungler is ready to gank bot.
ok I under stand so go 4 adc if pulled towards. makes sense
Thank you for the advice. I have gotten very good at her and even have the pool party skin for her now. Now 1 more thing. What items are good for her that are offensive boosts other then the sunfire cape.
