Good By Veigar

Well it's come. Finally his death is present and he will be shipped off to the forgotten and little used champion list in the dirt. Hello Urgot, makes some room,Veigar is coming on down.

Now, don't get me wrong. I knew it was coming, Riot made it perfectly clear. "We are trying to tone down burst assassins that have no counter play and items that support that" is a motto they have been working on for awhile (Paraphrasing I know but work with me here). I was just hoping with the removal of the camp that was most hurt by this item removal they would rework him at the same time. He's not played nearly as much as Ahri (Also he counters her hard, or at least I always have an easy match up there), but come on. That was his bread and butter. Waddle up, stun, boom, and then be down and doing nothing for the next 20 odd seconds.

The biggest problem that Veigar has right now is his cooldowns. They are massive, but matched up with the ability to utterly delete a target with DFG early, and late game get two people. It forced teams to be really careful about positioning or face some serious consequences... but now? Eh, not even really scary till post 20 minutes. If a player is smart they won't even die against him as you stock up on potions and early mr, and go back if you get low. He's also so easy to counter mid and late game it's silly.( item 3102 or item 3140 make him near useless).

So this is a plea Riot. Please fix Veigar. Just look, look at it:Veigar Do you see that face? So innocent, and kind, just wanting to crush a few souls and suck the power from them before going on a world consuming rampage is all that's there. Have a heart and work on him a bit so he's playable again after you took away his favorite toy.

-TehNewb, Long time Veigar player.

i just came from a match as playing as veigar....even though it wasn't a direct nerf, it felt like the twitch nerf of 4.10.... hell even worse than that. Until riot fixes veig hello Azir , Orianna , and Viktor

I'm probably going to Viktor embrace progress until Veigar is fixed. I'm a newcomer to Veigar, but I'll be missing him this patch.

EDIT: tired salty dude/ramble alert

Yeah... I feel like a broken record lately but I quit Veigar after Season 2 ended because other champs simply did his job, but better (coughSyndracough) and a bunch of other power creep issues caused him to be out of the competitive loop for quite some time.

And yes, I get it, I could be "pro" with him if I really wanted to but I don't find it rewarding to play a champ that is clearly and consistently disadvantaged compared to other champs. But moving on.

These recent changes have made him pretty much impossible to play against a competent opponent. Boohoo, 5-man stun ring OP, boohoo insta-kill potential. Anyone who knows what Veigar's play patterns are would not get caught by these things, and instead would know that he is super easy to kill and super easy to counter.

Of course, I could say the same thing about Warwick. I'm still salty about that 5-pronged nerf they gave him (yes count 'em, 5 nerfs at once). People QQ'd about his ult, saying it had no counterplay when simply sticking by one teammate with one CC ruins his entire day. Sure, the numbers were too strong, but the fact that people say that his ult has "no counterplay" just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And the fact that Riot is being so slow and indirect about several of these balance changes is even worse. Warwick's ult is too strong, lol let's lower his W duration. Lol Zed is too good at safely farming a losing lane, let's nerf his lategame split push. Jungle is not widely accessible? Lol let's make the early game worse by raising costs by 100g. Lol Lee Sin? Overpowered? Whatever do you mean?

Back to Veigar. He's in a horrible spot right now. However, they did say they would address him in patch 5.3. We'll have to wait what they have to say about him until then.

i played against a veigar yesterday as orianna, it was pretty halal.

lane phase was easy, just sat there trading autos with him and shielding his Q then he hits 6 and ults me while i have chalice, survived that with half hp then he finishes his morello and tries ulting me again, survived that with half hp then i roamed and got a few kills and it went from funny to sad.

i think their might be something wrong with your playstyle on veigar if you need a dfg to make him usefull do i need to mention his insane anti mage ult or his giant aoe stun and ap stacking q

item 3102, a lack of mobility, and high cooldowns on 3 of his 4 abilities.

As someone who had Veigar as a main back in Season 2 and 3, I know how terrible removing DFG is for Veigar. It literally was his entire kit's core.

Banshee can be popped by spammable Qs(who late game deal A TON of damage), and all his 3 other abilities are incredibly strong, W can easily deal more damage than most ultimates in the game, E can stun and zone an entire enemy team in a teamfight (stun is 2.5 sec btw) and his R can 100-0 carries late game.

And no DFG wasn't Veigar's core because late game it became useless overkill, Rabadon was because he gained a ton of free AP that allowed him to reach the point faster

It's true, CDR is Veigar's biggest issue. Without it he can't farm his 'q'. And a lot of the CDR items he likes were either nerfed or removed. I'm not sure if Riot was targeting Veigar with these changes (or just AP champs in general). Either way, Veigar could use some slight compensation (maybe a slightly lower cooldown on his 'q', but otherwise he's fine) but he's still extremely strong when given the chance to free farm. He's like Nasus. Not the best early but the longer the game goes the more terrifying he becomes.

I use a bit of hyperbole here but if you think he's not that weakened you've not been playing Veigar a lot. Reducing the CD on his q would actually be a bit of a weakness if anything. He needs cd reduction on his e most of all, and a tweak to his stun time. If the Q had a shorter cd it could hurt more than anything else as you could chew through your mana wanting to farm q and then get left. I think he either needs a rehaul or his passive needs a buff to go with the cd reduction.

As for how long I've been playing Veigar, since pre season 1. So i'm pretty familiar with his kit and the DFG impact. The biggest deal is that if you miss a stun with him, your useless for the rest of the fight pretty much. Even with max CD

The sad part about him is how easy it is to counter him. For a change there is too -much- counter play and it crushes his game. His stun is really really hard to use properly. You either have to be good enough to always drop it right on them, or lead them so they run into it by anticipating what they will do. The worst part is the cast time which is not instant. With his current set up I'd love to see a more reliable, but smaller targeted stun. Yeah, a straight point click stun that would hold them in place for two seconds (Longest event stun time I believe), would be broken, but there are plenty of things less than that which could be done.

When an enemy veigar is ahead, i just go to shop and buy the magic resist boots for the tenacity. When he stuns me I am able to walk out before his burst lands and take absolutely no damage. It's cruel i know but i can't let him snowball even harder, and yes, sometimes i do laugh to myself when i just walk out of the burst he worked so hard to setup.

Not really, i main Veigar (well moved back to Fizz and Zed for a bit) and i don't think DFG removal hurts him. Mid game you never actually needed DFG to kill anybody (trust me, i always forgot to use it). It just made him overkill tanks.

Uuuuuhhhhhhh... yeah. I'm not sure if I really agree with that. Or maybe you've not been playing against people that build properly. The early (pre 20 min) DFG turns him from a grind work them down to half and then tries to combo them for the kill, to an insta gibber that will kill you if you are out of position. The DFG helps against mages that build lots of health (Vlad). Then when you get late game and people build MR (Because you are rocking) it helps punch through that so after everything is on CD you aren't just dead wait walking around the back and throwing q's

If you play against mages with a ton of health like Vladimir or Swain then you will lose the lane anyway because you cannot poke them down once you get mana reg items or blue to set up a kill, since they will just heal it all up and mainly rush health items.

It might be me just not playing against people who itemize against me though. But even if mages or ADCs build MR items they end up missing damage so i guess it's a win-win since late game Sorcerer Boots + Void Staff give you way more than enough magic pen.
