Could be the fact that they stated poro king would be here for a couple weeks in a row. for the christmas season?

They said Poro King would be around for the entire Snowdown Event, which ends on 1/9. Seriously dude, read the front page sometime, Snowdown has only been on the news page and front page of the client for like all of December.

It's true though that having a rotating game mode doesn't really mean much when the game modes don't actually rotate.
