Well, because the community is asking for 10 bans since a long time :)
And even the game needs it with that size of a champ pool. 6 bans were okay at release but it isn't enough now, especially with the many similar champ designs. In pro play it was neccessary to implement it but it seems that when it should go to live servers, they change their minds due to, well, reasons (I have an opinion but leave it now).
And don't get me wrong, I really would like to see the LCS system in our ranked matches as it is. The only extra option what I suggested to add was to be able to trade pick order between teammates before bans.
I'm quite new to LoL but as I played DoTA even before LoL's release I've seen MOBAs before. E.g. in DoTA there are 10 bans and in an even more though and complicated way than LCS format, and people who are playing ranked draft can deal with it since ages, so it works obviously. On top of that it forces better balance and a much wider pool of valid champs overall.
(FYI it goes like this, team A is Radiant, team B is Dire: A ban, B ban, A ban, B ban, A pick, B pick, B pick, A pick, A ban, B ban, A ban, B ban, B pick, A pick, B pick, A pick, B ban, A ban, B pick, A pick - yes, that means with 4-4 locked in champs you still have 1-1 bans :-) )
The problem, I think, that Riot made - and keep on making - ranked a too casual mode. It isn't just resulting in a lot of trolls and afks and such but many "one trick ponies" who can only play 1-2 champs doesn't matter what. And of course , these champs are usually the most hated and banned ones.
So, it's a complicated issue where Riot had to react to the 10 bans requests finally but at the same time make it sure that the "Yasuo main"-types of their playerbase won't be alienated, and at the same time they don't have to care much about balance or cut their - not so okay - "artifical meta rotating" practice.
But it seems they underestimated the mental capacity of the community as many people figured out that it isn't what they asked for at all and are seriously complaining. I think this is why we don't see the system live still, though I have no guesses what will be Riot's next step in this issue.
If you are interested in my personal opinion, I say to just go with the LCS format as it is. Reasons:
- It is far the best from the available options by any sense
- As Riot said many many times before, ranked LoL should be the very same from B5 up till LCS (so why not in this case??)
- If somebody can't deal with bans or play more than one champ they should play blinds, randoms, etc. and not a draft gamemode - as a tough banning phase is an important part of a draft game (wtf?...)
(And I do apologise about the long reply, I type too fast :) )
