Placements begin with an initial MMR based on your MMR from the previous season (defaulting to around Silver IV with no previous ranked history on the account).

You were likely Bronze V (or close to it) last season, so that is where your MMR started you off. While you may have gone 8-2, you did so against primarily Bronze V players and didn't climb much. While most players started off about a tier below their previous ranking even when they did well in placements (i.e. Gold V -> Silver V), you couldn't go any lower than Bronze V.

For comparison, your friend was either new to ranked (defaulting to Silver IV-ish MMR) or sere Silver/Gold last season. Even if they did more poorly, they were playing against higher skilled players and were placed higher as a result.

Because it's averaged out with your previous season's performance where you were bronze V.

your rank this season depends on the mmr of the old season.

If your mmr was bad last season, you will get placed badly in this season. Placements matter very little when deciding where you get placed. (unless its your first placement)

And its not really an issue where you get placed tbh, cause if you are good enough you will climb out! :D

I agree with most of what you said. however...

This right here is garbage.

Unless player is actually gold level, it's almost impossible to climb out of 500 MMR, other than just luck on who you are matched with. There are too many trolls and feeders. Wins are 70% of the time determined by which side gets them.

"but you're not one of them, so over time you should climb out, number theory blahblah blah".

Here's the thing. number theory and probabilty, etc, only REALLY work out smoothly, over a THOUSAND games or so. Meanwhile, there WILL be players that just get screwed hard, for 10 games in a row, with NOTHING they can do about it.

Not many people want to keep going after that kind of garbage happens to them.

According to science, the bigger the sample size, the lower the inconsistency.

Meaning if you have 10 games with trolls on your team, you will have 10 games with trolls on the enemy team.

The probability of a player getting only trolls and never having a troll on the enemy team is extremely low in a game as large as league.

Also before you tell me "I only get trolls, never had troll on the enemy team, People are more likely to remember bad things that happen and ignore good things.

TLDR ; if you play enough, and are better than your current ELO, you will cimb out.

lol what....... You only get to that low of mmr and get stuck there if you trolling or that is your actual elo. Its super easy to get out if your better than that. Don't even try to spread this bs lie.

I hold my own when in premade teams of gold and plats. But I cant get out of silver. because of 3 lane feeders. over. and over. and over. i kill my lane, but literally EVERYONE ELSE on my team feeds, way more than you would expect. so no. dont YOU try to spread this "its easy" crap

Depends on your last seasons mmr, and the mmr of who you played against. Let's say you went 5-5 against people in gold, you'll get placed in that area. If you go 5-5 against people in bronze, you'll be in bronze.
