Discussions of Ranks in Ranked

I have had issues with the ranked system for some time, and I think it could use some tweaking. From what I have gathered, Riot currently makes matches based off of being one rank higher or lower than you, and the total number of wins in each queue, so that when you play Summoner's Rift, you will play against players with a similar number of wins.

However, in ranked I just don't feel that should fly. For instance, as a lowly Bronze I when trying to get into Silver V, I do not feel as if I should be matched with Silver I players who are currently getting into Gold V. I feel that you should be matched within your division more closely.

For example: Consider our fictional Gold III player. They play against other Gold III players and whether or not our fictional player is better or worse than the other Gold III players, this is a fair match-up. If they win consistently - Yay! Our fictional Gold III player has proven they are better than the other Gold III players. Go play in Gold II, you deserve it. If they lose consistently - Well, our fictional Gold III player is not as good as the other Gold III players. Maybe they should play in Gold IV for a bit and hone their skills.

If you start throwing Platinum players into this mess though, it changes completely. What does being Gold III mean if our fictional player is playing vs Platinums? Are they better than Gold III? Well sure, if our fictional player wins, they will get into Gold II, which doesn't really seem fair if they are beating Platinum players. What about Silvers? Well, even if they win (which they should, they are in Gold after all) progressing into Gold III doesn't really seem a fitting reward if all you are doing is beating lower ranked players. Matches should be made within a tighter selection if our rank is to have any meaning when it comes to skill.

What are your thoughts?

TL;DR- get matched outside your rank, and your rank becomes meaningless.

There's only a 50 MMR difference between each rank. You can gain that in literally 3 wins in a row.

Bronze 1: 1200 MMR Silver 5: 1250 MMR Silver 4: 1300 MMR Silver 3: 1350 MMR Silver 2: 1400 MMR Silver 1: 1450 MMR

So that Silver 1 won approximately 15 more games than you. Realistically, if they hadn't put up that piece of information for you, it's very unlikely you'd have noticed.
